Athlete Are You?
At first glance it might not seem that Realtors and athletes have much in common. Your success as a Realtor has little to do with how fast you can run or the strength of your bicep muscles.
However, the things that
make for a successful athlete, such as dedication to training, focus, intelligence and a solid work ethic also make for a successful Realtor.

Back to basics this week; Most Realtors® join the VBR because they want to sell homes and make money. Our core mission is to help you sell and succeed, but please do not overlook the many benefits offered by the VBR, CAR and NAR. One of the most overlooked benefits is the "Tech HelpLine". Did you know you may call the Tech HelpLine to seek assistance with any technology related issue? It is not limited to real estate matters. They will help you with printer, computer and smart phone problems. They may even help you with your DVD player, but might not help you with your Eight Track or cassette players! Look down and to the left for the phone number. No charge, no hassle questions answered! Take a look at NAR.Realtor for a list of the many benefits offered by the National Association of Realtors®. Among those that I have used over the years, dental insurance stands out as a very good deal. They also have a discount deal with Chrysler (I'm waiting for the BMW discount myself!) and the Lenovo computer deals have been very good. You are part of the largest trade association in the US. Everyone wants to sell to us and many offer good deals.

Photo Infringement Lawsuit Dismissed
The United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit has affirmed a lower court's dismissal of a copyright-infringement lawsuit filed by a photographer against a real estate professional who published one of the photographer's images online without permission. The court ruled that the photographer did not establish the fair market value of the photo-and therefore could not show that actual damages were caused by its publication-because there was no evidence that anyone had ever paid to license it.

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS
Regulation of Home Inspectors is calendared for January 31st.

CAR initiated  Senate Bill 17-038Concerning Regulation of Home Inspectors by Senator Nancy Todd (D-Aurora) was introduced last week and will now be heard in the Senate State, Veterans & Military Affairs Committee on January 31st.  Today, the Legislative Policy Committee (LPC) officially voted to support the bill and CAR will prepare testimony on this important legislation. SB17-038 makes it unlawful for a person to act as a home inspector without first registering with the department of regulatory agencies.  This year's bill would require a home inspector to pay a registration fee, show proof of possession of minimum liability insurance coverage and a surety bond, and submit fingerprints for a criminal background check. The registration program would sunset in five years.

AFFILIATE SPOTLIGHT
Pettit Photography

Kent Pettit has been a photographer in the Vail area since he arrived in this valley.  He began with his own "old-time" photography storefront in Minturn in 1990.  After that venture, he partnered with Russ Ohlson of Vail Valley Portraits to photograph many, many weddings and portraits with his Hasselblad.

Later he started his own business, Pettit Photography, to primarily record many memories through his wedding and portrait photographic coverage. But as his business grew, and digital photography evolved, he saw a new aspect of real estate photography developing, and began to offer his services to real estate agents and property management agents. Now in 2017, real estate photography is one of his primary areas of his business. When not photographing a home, an event, or a portriat, you might find Kent playing the guitar, helping in Rotary, walking with his dog or hiking with his wife.

Kent can be reached at [email protected] or 970-470-3234 for real estate photos or agent photos that you might need. Visit his website at pettitphotography.com
