Dear international students and scholars,

It has been brought to our attention that some of our international students at the University of Delaware have been contacted in a telephone scam that involves individuals representing themselves as FBI agents. The callers tell the students that they will take away their visas unless they pay.

A least one UD student has already been victimized in this way.

According to University of Delaware Police, this is a scam. The FBI will never reach out to individuals by telephone. They must contact individuals in person and show their identification.

If you receive such a phone call, UD Police advises that you hang up immediately and report the incident to them by calling 302-831-2222.

Additional information about phone scams that use the FBI's name may be found on the FBI website.

If you have any questions or need any assistance, you can always contact OISS by phone at (302) 831-2115 or by email at [email protected]

Sincerely,

Ravi Ammigan, Director
