Tackling Sickle Cell Disease 

Join  Devin and Jason McCourty , Rutgers football standouts and NFL defensive backs, and the Embrace Kids Foundation to Tackle Sickle Cell Disease by helping raise awareness in the fight against sickle cell and by donating blood  at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital on February 18. Donors will receive a signed photograph of the McCourty twins and a Tackle Sickle Cell T-shirt. Preregister here .

The George Street Playhouse delivers emotionally powerful performances in American Son, a compelling and timely story about race in present-day America, February 7-26.

Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox, a genre-busting, rotating collective of musicians and vocalists that re-imagines modern pop hits in the style of jazz, ragtime, and swing classics, visits the State Theatre on February 8.

The Bildner Center for the Study of Jewish Life presents a film screening of Mr. Gaga: A True Story of Love and Dance, featuring renowned Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin, on February 9 at Nicholas Music Center.

Crossroads Theatre marks Black History Month with a daring story of a famed abolitionist from a modern perspective set in the Harriet Tubman Retirement Home,  Beyond the Oak Trees, February 16-26. 
The New Jersey Film Festival

The New Jersey Film Festival offers more than a dozen films this month, including the 2017 United States Super 8 Film & Digital Video Festival, February 18-19 at Voorhees Hall on the College Avenue Campus.

Zimmerli Art Museum present s Art After Hours: First Tuesdays on February 7; Music at the Museum on February 19, and Artists and Activism: A View Behind the Gorilla Mask, which features two original members of the Guerrila Girls, on February 27.

Hear from Mayor James Cahill about future plans of  the arts in the Hub City during  New Brunswick 2017: The Arts & the City, February 7, at Crossroads Theatre. 

On February 9, New Brunswick Free Public Library will present a
workshop on NJ Career Connections and how it can help with job searches and setting goals. The discussion will also include phases of job loss and dealing with life changes.

In observance of Black History Month, the New Brunswick African American Heritage Committee will present a program and exhibit on February 11 at the New Brunswick Free Public Library entitled  "The Domino Effect of Slavery on the Family - Incarceration, Education and Poverty."

Visit the New Brunswick Music Scene Archive Anniversary Exhibit throughout February at the  Alexander Library , featuring items reflecting the history of the city's independent music since the 1980s donated from personal collections of those involved in the scene.

The Center for Women in the Arts and Humanities presents  Living in the Shadows: Underground Immigrant Communities , a multidisciplinary, creative inquiry, including a group exhibition, artists discussion on March 1, and film screenings. The exhibition runs through April 7.
