MacLaren Society: The Bicycle Thief

At Thomas MacLaren School, we believe that all human beings can know truth, create beauty, and practice goodness.  The MacLaren Society is dedicated to bringing this pursuit to the broader Colorado Springs community through the lenses of the humanities, the sciences, and the arts.

This next MacLaren Society event will feature a film screening of the Vittorio de Sica classic The Bicycle Thief, presented by Mr. Benjamin Burtzos.

Benjamin Burtzos earned his Bachelor of Arts from Colorado College in 2011, where he studied English, Political Science, and Film.  Under the tutelage of Dr. John Simons, Mr. Burtzos concentrated on post-WWII film of America and Europe, and wrote his capstone paper on technology, masculinity, and the family in Rebel Without a Cause.  After college, Mr. Burtzos served one year in AmeriCorps in the Chicago area, then returned to Colorado and is now in his fifth year on the faculty of Thomas MacLaren School, where he teaches Latin, Humane Letters 10, and Drama in addition to serving as the head boys basketball coach. In recent years, Mr. Burtzos has written and presented on political themes in film, including his previous MacLaren Society presentations of On The Waterfront and The Third Man.

MacLaren Society events are for adults and MacLaren upperclassmen only.
