| Volunteers make a day off, a day of service by Loving Our Cities in honor of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. |

Members and friends of The Perfecting Church honored the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a day of service in partnership with Sicklerville United Methodist Church and K-Love Philly. F
ollowing a kick-off breakfast with their neighbors, nearly 250 volunteers watched a preview of Dr. King's "I Have A Dream" speech and participated in a discussion and the creation of a community vision board, now on display at Winslow Township Municipal Building. Guests then departed to perform an estimated 900 hours of community service, hugging, reading, raking, cleaning, sorting and stocking, while building bridges throughout Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Philadelphia Counties, to foster mutual understanding that leads to peace and reconciliation in the communities where we live, work, serve and worship.
"We are in the midst of one of the most divided times in our nation and the world, compelled by a fear that seeks to bully us into choosing 'us' or 'them,'" remarked Angela M. Brown, executive director of Loving Our Cities.
"
As we reflect on Dr. King's
legacy, let us also remember and take inspiration from Mahalia Jackson
who encouraged Dr. King to come off his 'script' and proclaim the dream. It's time for us to also come off our script, moving from doing what is expected to simply doing what is right, not for some, but for all, realizing as Dr. King admonished,
'The
time
is always right to do what is right.'"

A Few Good Men (AFGM), a community engagement of
Loving Our Cities, teamed up with local high school football coaches from the South Jersey area to recognize recipients of the 2016 AFGM Award on Sunday, January 15, 2017.
Awardees were selected for their leadership and community service, both on and off the field, as observed during their participation in the 2016 AFGM season when they attended monthly sessions at their respective high schools on sportsmanship, social media, decision-making, stress management, financial literacy and responsible driving.

AFGM was created in 2012 to provide mentoring and leadership development in an effort to grow local student athletes from the Garden State into
