Dear Senn Community,
The Holidays are upon us and students are extremely busy as they prepare for upcoming performances. As we approach the chilly months it is easy for students to avoid school but please remember that strong attendance is vital. Our goal is to reach 93% this year and in order to do that all students need to ensure that they attend all of their classes. Throughout December, we are offering weekly incentives for the class with the most increase in their attendance percentage. We are also targeting individual students, so as parents, you may be asked to come in and discuss your student’s attendance. Senn staff is committed to partnering with you - each time your student is late to school or absent, you should receive an automated phone call. If your student is absent three consecutive days, your student's counselor will contact you. Teachers may also reach out to you if they are concerned or see a change in attendance. Please continue to encourage your students to come to school on time and focused.
This Monday, December 5, PSAT scores will be released for all 9th, 10th and 11th graders. We will be sharing more information with parents on how to both access their scores and further support students. Additionally, we will be providing incentives for 11th graders to participate in SAT prep this spring. Please look for information to be emailed out to you.
I hope to see you this Friday at 8 a.m. for “Coffee with the Principal!”
Sincerely
Mary Beck

IB Learner Profile
The IB Learner Profile aims to educate the whole person by developing the academic, social, and emotional skills necessary for our students to face ethical challenges in our global society. The IB learner profile is the IB mission statement in action and is a set of characteristics that our students need to be active and responsible citizens. IB learners are:
- Inquirers
- Knowledgeable
- Thinkers
- Communicators
- Principled
- Open-minded
- Caring
- Risk-takers
- Balanced
- Reflective
As an IB World School, Senn teachers and students strive to be IB learners. Students engage in activities that develop these attributes through coursework as well as participation in extra-curricular activities. The MYP personal project which students complete in the 10th grade provides opportunities to develop IB learner traits. Through the process of researching a topic of personal interest, students become inquirers, thinkers, and communicators. Other activities, such as the annual Senn beach clean at Osterman beach, allow students to demonstrate the IB learner profile. Please ask your student about their development in these areas - you will be impressed with what they share.

Ms. James-Matthews, the school’s new Intervention Specialist, implements the positive behavior intervention and support program. She comes to Senn High School with an outstanding educational and work background in youth development along with substantial clinical experience. In the brief time that Ms. James-Matthews has been here she has been busy fostering positive relationships among all members of the school’s community.

Parent Advisory Council (PAC) Update
Our parent organization, the PAC, met last month to share and promote goals they want to achieve within the organization this school year. Their goals are:
- Increase parent understanding of Senn programs and curriculum using opportunities developed with school leaders.
- Create programs that expose parents and students to various colleges and career paths.
- Improve the communication systems between Senn parents, including signage, translations, email, text messaging, website and telephone.
- Develop opportunities for parent education in basic computer skills, including online navigation of sites or applications beneficial to student achievement.
Through our meeting parents determined and designed their first upcoming event. On December 3rd the PAC are hosting our first parent event to provide training targeting Goal 4. We will learn how to navigate our school website and provide an information session on Google Classroom. Our next general PAC meeting is on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 from 6:00-7:00 pm. We look forward to seeing you there because we will, again, need your input for a future parent event.
