Our Impact - a Success Story

Contributions received from donors like you help support the programs and people served by Shelter House - a community-based, non-profit organization that has been providing crisis intervention, safe housing, and supportive services to homeless families and victims of domestic violence for over 36 years.

In addition to operating two family shelters and one domestic violence shelter, we also work with many families in our community to help prevent homelessness. Below, please read about one of our most recent success stories:

The Richardsons', a family of four, came to Shelter House through our prevention program at the Patrick Henry Family Shelter a few months ago. Our prevention program connects our case managers with clients who are on the brink of entering shelter to find ways to prevent homelessness. The Richardsons' were evicted from their home and living from one hotel to another. Within two weeks of working with one of our case managers, we were able to help them secure permanent housing with a private landlord. The father is now working with our employment specialist to increase his household income so they are able to continue their life of stability and self-sufficiency!
