Adventures in the  New Year
February 2017

Keeping an Eye Out
For the Future of Glade Run Adventures

Veronica (pictured above) isn't the only one keeping an eye out for a fantastic future. As the agency reorganizational efforts have begun to take shape, the Adventures program staff are excited to be teaming up with St. Stephen's Lutheran Academy and Transition Program staff under the newly created  umbrella of  educational excellence. Merging with these already well oiled dynamics means more opportunities for networking and growth of the Adventures Program. The fresh start feels good, as Veronica can attest, with her high prancing antics in the beautiful new pastures on campus.

Symposium Set!
Saturday, April 1st

This event is something special.  There are folks who have attended just about every year over the past seventeen that we've been hosting this fundraiser.  The professional gardening speakers, luncheon, auction and vendors are always amazing, but what makes folks come back year after year is the sense of camaraderie and support for a horticultural therapy program that celebrates the success of every child involved. So, grab your friends, relatives, and people you want to impress, and bring them out on April 1st to celebrate with us!   Details and registration information can be found here.

Super Summer Camps
We make learning fun!

Do you remember summer camp; the arts and crafts, creek hikes, getting ridiculously dirty, but most of all the fast friends that you made? Throw in therapeutic horseback riding, a specially designed autism friendly playground, organic gardens, friendly farm animals and specially trained staff who love your kids for exactly who they are, and that's what we're talking about.  Every kid deserves that super fun summer camp that they look forward to each year and we couldn't be more excited to be back on campus this year providing two different two week sessions in June and August.  We love camp just as much as the kids do ~ if that's even possible. Get the details here!

Out and About
Meet up with us at a local event!

We were excited to see so many of our summer friends at the Autism Connection Camp Fair at Ross Park Mall last Saturday and hope to run into you at one of the many other tabling events that we'll be attending.  Stop by to just say hi (we have goodies!) at the Spotlight on Mental Health (2/15), the Autism of Butler County's documentary showing (2/28), the St. Stephen's Open House and Transitions Fair (3/27), or the NAMI Child and Adolescent Mental Health Conference (3/31). Of course, we'd love to get out and about to other places to share about what's going on in Adventures, so feel free to pass along any ideas!

Extended School Year
A collaboration of epic proportions

Some things just make so much sense.  The collaboration between Adventures and St. Stephen's to offer a unique experiential academic ESY program is one of those things! From  July 10th - 27th ( Monday - Thursday  9:00 am - 1:30 pm)
St. Stephen's Lutheran Academy will be utilizing Glade Run Adventures experiential activities for students attending ESY. Students can read to Marty the bunny, try some real world math tallying 1/4 and 1/2 cups of grain, dividing bales of hay by flakes and practice their social skill concepts with Taco the miniature donkey. It's learning that's fun and makes sense for kids!  For more information,  click here and/or contact Brandy Dietrich (724) 452-4453 ext. 1154.

Spring Plant Sale
Friday and Saturday May 12 & 13

Your one stop Mother's Day shop for all things horticultural. Bring Mom along to pick her own hanging baskets or planters (that's what I do) and plan your entire veggie, herb and flower gardens at the same time. There's plenty to keep the kids occupied too, with wagon rides, animals to pet, games and music.  Come for lunch at the Friday Taco bar (no donkey's named Taco are involved) or Saturday's Brittner's dogs.Think spring, it will be here before you know it!

Riding Lesson Epiphany
The Ah-ha moment of lesson sessions

Low and behold - a better way of serving you! Sometimes you do a thing the same way for so long you don't realize that there's a better way - then, when you try something new, you wish you had make the change ages ago. That's how it is with our lessons.  Now, convenient six week sessions help participants set goals, track progress and see success, which spurs (you guessed it!) MORE success! As riders progress they are able to be placed in groups during subsequent sessions which builds friendships and fun (we are so sneaky getting folks to learn while having fun)! Sessions start fresh every 6 weeks, so get in touch with Carrie at [email protected] or (724) 452-4453 ext. 1249 to get signed up or for more information. You can also check out our newest Adventures General Flyer for more details!

Social Media Savvy
Well... working on it anyway

FacebookTwitter, Instagram, Pintrest, Youtube, Snapchat, you name it, we  are connecting   to it.  We have way too much  fun to keep it to ourselves and social media is our way of sharing.  So, whatever your social media of choice, check us out and share the love! You can also sign up for our blog which we try really hard to update regularly.

Meet Ariel
Undersea Intern (not really - she has a desk)

Hi there! My name is Ariel Goehring and I'm a new an intern here at Glade Run. I am currently in my last semester as a graduate student at the University of Pittsburgh, where I am studying Social Work. While at Glade Run I will be working with both the Adventures program and Foundations. My dream is to create programming  with grieving children and teens who have experienced traumas and provide them with a place of respite and community; I see this the most clearly in the form of a camp. I would love to incorporate the use of horses into the framework of camp and therefore I am very excited to learn all that I can from my time in these various programs.
