Purim Event 
Honoring Dena and Baruch Brody
March 12, 2017 
Dena and Baruch Brody, who were instrumental in the growth and development of The Hebrew Academy, now known as Robert M. Beren Academy (RMBA), are making aliyah in 2017. In recognition of their significance to the Houston Jewish community, both RMBA and United Orthodox Synagogues (UOS) are honoring them  on Purim, SundayMarch 12, 2017, with a special Purim seudah (festive dinner) at UOS.  More details to follow in January 2017.

WELCOME!
Welcome to new student Ariel Bublil who joined RMBA this week. Classmates in Morah Jamie's EC15 class warmly greeted their new friend!


STAND WITH US
Jesse Stock,  Southern Region High School Coordinator  for Stand With Us, addressed the High School on the topic of "Israel 101: A  history of Israel from the destruction of the Second Temple until today." He also spoke to the students about ways they can get involved in Israel Advocacy in High School and in College.


TEACHERS ENRICHMENT
On January 4th RMBA teachers were hard at work during a Professional Development Day preparing for the new semester.


VISIT TO THE JHV
11th and 12th grade boys had a special visit this week to the Jewish Herald Voice, where they heard all about the vital role the JHV plays in the Houston Jewish Community. The Men's Seminar visits a Jewish organization or agency every week.


THINK OUTSIDE THE TRASH- RECYCLE!
M.A.D. (making a difference) high school students Nathan Plumb (l) and Leora Geralnik (r) collect all paper throughout the school on fridays to be recycled.


SCRIPPS SPELLING BEE
Congratulations to our Scripps Spelling Bee winners!! From left to right: runner up Sarah Loiselle, 1st place Ariel Lagnado and 3rd place Ezra Miller! The creative t-shirts were designed by 5th grade student Hannah Leah Gross.


READY, SET, GO!
This week we saw the launch of RMBA's group running program 'School Marathon' with over 50 participants! The students will complete 26.2 miles (the length of a full marathon) over a 6-week period and conclude with a big celebration!

NAME THAT BOOK!

ATHLETICS UPDATES 
High School Boys Basketball - The boys opened their TAPPS district campaign with a decisive victory over Chinquapin.  They will be on the road on January 12th against the 5th ranked team in the state, Baytown Christian.

High School Girls Basketball - The girls won their district opener against Chinquapin on January 11th.  The girls will now travel to Baytown Christian on Januray 12th.

Middle School Varsity Boys Basketball - The middle school boys will be on the road against Veritas on Thursday, January 12th.

Middle School JV Boys Basketball - The middle school JV boys will be hosting TDS on  Thursday, January 12th.

Middle School Girls Basketball - The middle school girls will be on the road against Veritas on Thursday, January 12th.

Schedule - The calendar will always be the most current and updated schedule.

Toyota Center - The MS girls and the MS Varsity Boys will be playing in the Toyota Center on February 2nd.  The games will be approximately at  1:00 p.m. for the girls and  2:00 p.m. for the boys.  As we get closer, we will be able to firm up the times.  The players will have an opportunity to attend the Rockets game that night and even get to sit front row for the teams shoot-a-round before the game, if they have purchased a ticket.  The deadline for tickets is  noon on Friday, January 13th.
