First Defenders Commemorative Service

This Sunday Civil War re-enactors from the 96th PA Regiment (pictured above) will present the colors at this service commemorating the "First Defenders" who responded to President Abraham Lincoln's call to defend Washington D.C. at the start of what became the war between the states.

At 10:30 a.m., soloist Stephen Lavonier  will be singing civil war era selections from the music of Stephen Foster. Known as the "Father of American Music," Foster may be best-known for songs like "My Old Kentucky Home" but he also wrote songs about the civil war. Lavonier will provide commentary about the selections.

Guest musician Rhys Williams will be accompanying hymns and playing duets with Jane Knotek, Zion's Director of Music Ministry.

The service is sponsored by the Allentown chapter of the Honorary First Defenders. and their officers will assist Pastor Bob Stevens in leading the service. Light refreshments will be served after the service. All are welcome!

Half-Truths:
Common Sayings
that the Bible Doesn't Say

You've probably heard these Christian clichés ... and maybe you've used a few of them yourself. But none of them is in the bible, and none of them is completely true.... which is the reason Adam Hamilton wrote his book, Half Truths. He explores what is true in each statement, then helps us look beyond the cliche to understand the deeper Christian teaching.

You're welcome to join us Sundays at 9:30 a.m. as we listen to Pastor Hamilton present his views in this DVD series, and then we'll discuss Biblical passages that relate to the saying of the week. We meet in the church parlor over coffee and donuts. Enter by the Church Street (side) door.

Church Parking:

Enter the Gross McGinley (Crown Tower) lot via 7th St.  DO NOT attempt to enter the lot through the alley!

Look for the blue Liberty Bell Church Parking sign at the entrance to the lot on the north side of their building (pictured here).  Thank you to Dave Dettra for his service as our volunteer parking lot attendant!

NOTE: Depending on the time you arrive, the sign may be at the lot on the south side of the building!

Remember, too, that street parking is available both on Hamilton and Seventh Streets.

If you need assistance with parking, please call the church office (610-435-2412).
