NORTHERN MICHIGAN CHAMBER ALLIANCE ATTENDS  
STATE OF THE STATE IN LANSING 
This week I was in Lansing representing Charlevoix as part of our Northern Michigan Chamber Alliance during the State of the State address.  It is always an honor to spend time in Lansing with our Representatives and Senators from the northern Michigan region.  We had a busy 24 hours in Lansing hosting lunch for the Governor and Lt. Governor Staffs, one on one meetings, receptions at the Capitol and a Legislative breakfast.

Meet Jeff Beauchamp.  Jeff grew up in Hartland and moved to Traverse City in 1991 after his service in the US Navy, where he was a rescue swimmer.  He lives with his wife, Diane, and their three kids.  Jeff has worked for Fox Motors in sales for over 20 years and brings his years of experience to every sale at  Fox Charlevoix.  To thank him for his dedication and excellent hard work, we presented Jeff with a specialty 30 caliber bolt action copper bullet pen. - Thank you Jeff

WELLNESS WORKSHOP HAPPENINGS  Every Wednesday from 8am-11am, Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital will be hosting their "Wellness Wednesday" health screening program at the hospital's Wellness Workshop at 411 Bridge Street in Charlevoix.  To see what screenings are included Click Here. Cost for the service is $15.  Hemoglobin A1C Levels can also be done for known or borderline diabetics for an additional $10.  Participants will receive all test results at the time of the screening.  A Registered Nurse will adapt health consultations and educational materials to individuals results.

Become a Volunteer: Junior Achievement programs teach students in kindergarten through high school important real-world concepts in financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneur-ship

What Junior Achievement Programs Do:  Junior Achievement programs give students opportunities to learn and apply critical soft skills such as collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity.

What is Expected of a Junior Achievement Volunteer:  The time commitment is as little as one hour a week over five weeks.  You can coordinate your classroom visits directly with the school's teacher to make sure the schedule works for both.

LUNCHEON LECTURE LOOKS AT MICHIGAN'S CHANGING CLIMATE 
North Central Michigan College's Luncheon Lecture program on Friday, January 27 will look at Michigan's changing climate.  The program will be held in the Library Conference Center on the Petoskey campus.  Lunch begins at 11:30am and the program begins at noon.

Average Great Lakes water temperatures are up, ice coverage and snow depths are down, and invasive species are spreading.  Matt Claucherty of the Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council reviews the long-term data showing changes in the local climate and explains the steps to avoid or reduce the disruption and damage that could lie ahead.

CAMP DAGGETT OFFERS WINTER ACTIVITIES
Camp Daggett offers great activities for families this winter.  On January 28 and February 25 from 5pm until 9pm, it's the ever popular Bearcub Outfitters Torchlight Snowshoe Demo!  Experience the ambiance of snow-covered trails illuminated by more than 100 torches on your trek.  Afterward, come inside for a cup of hot chocolate, freshly baked cookies and to warm-up by the crackling fire in the camp's beautiful main lodge.  Buy raffle tickets for great Bearcub Outfitter products with all proceeds going to Camp Daggett.  Admission is free, donations are encouraged and snowshoes are available for all ages.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY HOSTS SILENT FLICK & PIZZA EVENING!
To kick off the 125th anniversary of the arrival of the railroad in Charlevoix, the Charlevoix Historical Society is hosting a Silent Flick and Pizza evening at the Depot, Depot Beach, on Wednesday, February 8 at 6:00pm. 

The film, staring Buster Keaton, is "The General" referring to a locomotive that takes him into many misadventures during the Civil War.  Middle School student and vintage film buff Evan Beane will present a short program.

STARTING A BUSINESS WORKSHOP
Individuals in the beginning stages of starting a business, in need of accessing capital, or simply considering self-employment,
will have the opportunity to attend a Starting a Business workshop on Thursday, January 26, in Petoskey.  The workshop is being offered by the Northwest Michigan Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in partnership with North Central Michigan College, and is being held from 9am - 11:30am in Room 536 of the North Central Student and Community Resource Center.
