STEP is back for 2017 and will provide grants to subsidize student wages by $7 per hour. Summer jobs can be from 4 to 16 weeks and must take place between May 1 and August 31, 2017. STEP applications will be accepted until February 24, 2017.

The Dementia in Canada: A National Strategy for Dementia-friendly Communities report prepared by the Senate of Canada Committee on Social Affairs, Science, and Technology makes 29 recommendations aimed at ensuring the growing number of Canadians with dementia will be supported.

As part of the orchestra's community outreach initiative, seniors are invited to attend the February and April concerts at a reduced rate of only $5. (Seniors must present one of the coupons to receive the special rate. February offer;  April offer.) 

The orchestra is also extending an offer to organizers who bring groups of seniors to the concert.  They are providing complimentary admission for a bus driver, coordinator and any support staff in attendance. Communication, both verbal and non-verbal, is critical when caring for people with dementia and other complex conditions. This symposium will explore approaches to communicating with individuals with responsive behaviours and other communication barriers. ICCER wants to help support person and family-centred care by encouraging a mindful approach to communication. Participants will take away at least 2-3 easily implementable ideas for improving their communication with residents/family members.
