In Newark, at Rutgers, President Obama Talks Criminal Justice Reform

At RU's Center for Law and Justice, President Obama discussed mass incarceration and the reentry of people exiting correctional systems and into community life. President Obama, U.S. Senator Cory Booker, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, RU-Newark leadership, faculty and others joined in important discourse with community leaders and residents concerned with the criminal justice system. Sweeney, Barchi Tout Increased Research Funding, Integration Benefits

In a panel discussion with Senate President Steve Sweeney held at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, Rutgers President Bob Barchi announced that the University had achieved an 18.3 percent increase in overall funding for research and sponsored programs in the last fiscal year over the previous year, rising to $612.5 million in fiscal year 2015. Senator Sweeney joined several from Rutgers' academic and administrative leadership to tout that fact and discuss the benefits of the 2013 integration. Read more here.  
Rutgers Will Build, Run Center To Support Adults With Autism
The Rutgers Center for Adult Autism Services (RCAAS), will be located in New Brunswick and will offer up to 60 adults with autism, who are living off campus, with university jobs supported by clinical staff and graduate students. Key leaders in the private fundraising project are Mel Karmazin and his daughter Dina Karmazin, executive director of the Mel Karmazin Foundation, in partnership with the Rutgers University Foundation. The goal of the RCAAS initiative is to raise at least $35 million to fund two buildings that would establish a centralized location for customized vocational and residential programs, student training and interdisciplinary research collaborations. RU-Camden Student Earns American Society for Microbiology Fellowship
    
Michael Bamimore, a senior biology major at Rutgers University-Camden from Belleville, has been awarded the prestigious Undergraduate Research Fellowship from the American Society for Microbiology (ASM). Bamimore has an opportunity to present his research at the 2016 ASM Microbe Meeting. He will conduct research on the regulation of bacterial cell shape at Rutgers-Camden under the guidance of Eric Klein, an assistant professor of biology at Rutgers-Camden and a member of the American Society for Microbiology.
