FREDERICKSBURG, VIRGINIA, January 30, 2017 -
Lynda.com, owned by the professional networking site LinkedIn, offers over 5,000 high-quality video training courses on topics including: business and marketing, computer programming and IT, software, education, design and photography, and job seeking, audio production, and music instruction. Courses are offered at beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels.
Individual memberships start at $19.99 a month, but Central Rappahannock Regional Library customers can now take advantage of this popular online training site for free.
Customers can access Lynda.com at
www.librarypoint.org/research or bookmark the library's login page,
https://www.lynda.com/portal/sip?org=librarypoint.org, for direct access. Customers log in with their 14-digit library barcodes and 4-digit PIN numbers. Customers can call any
branch for assistance in obtaining their barcodes and PIN numbers.
Once logged in, first-time users create free accounts by entering their names and email addresses. They will then be able to immediately access all courses. Customers can view individual courses, create playlists, access packages of courses called "paths," subscribe to weekly series, and watch documentaries featuring industry experts and creative visionaries.
Lynda.com is accessible 24/7 via Web browsers from desktop computers or mobile devices. Customers using mobile devices will need to access Lynda.com via their mobile Web browser, not the Lynda.com app, which is only available to individual subscribers.
Courses can be downloaded for offline viewing, and many offer practice files for downloading. Additionally, some course paths offer industry-recognized certificates of completion.
Library Director Martha Hutzel says:
"Our mission is to inspire lifelong learning for everyone in our community. Lynda.com allows library customers to enhance existing skill sets, learn new skills, and to explore new interests without the limitations of cost. This is a wonderful resource for everyone, no matter what stage of life they may be in or what their personal goals are. We are able to offer resources like Lynda.com because we have such great support from our regional partners - the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania and Westmoreland."
