CAJM is ... |
Jewish art and history museums, historic sites, historical and archival societies, Holocaust centers, synagogue museums, Jewish Community Center galleries, children's museums, and university galleries ... the professionals and volunteers who work in them ... the children, adults, and families who visit them ... the patrons who support them ... the organization that keeps them vital.

Yiddish Book Center,

Shakespeare & Company, and is Vice Chair of the CAJM
Board.
Gabriel Sanders

JUDAICA IN THE SPOTLIGHT
On March 21, the CAJM conference will visit the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, home of the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Collection. At the MFA, Gabriel Goldstein will be in conversation with Marietta Cambareri, John Coffey, and Alanna Cooper about the role of Judaica in mainstream art institutions. How are Jewish ritual objects recognized within art history? What stories result? Come explore these questions with us during the conference. (Left, Spice Tower, 1810, Bohemian/Czech Republic, silver, from the Schusterman Collection. And see more Judaica treasures here.)

NEW HORIZONS FOR KLEEBLATT
This spring,
Norman L. Kleeblatt
, the Susan and Elihu Rose Chief Curator of the
Jewish Museum,
will be stepping down after decades of service. Originally joining the Museum as a conservator in 1975, he became a curator and key influence on the shape of its collections of modern and contemporary art. He is known for his landmark exhibitions, including:
The Dreyfus Affair
(1987),
Too Jewish?
(1996), and
Action/Abstraction
(2008). Norman has often been featured at CAJM conferences, and we look forward to his next chapter.

EMERGING PROFESSIONALS COMMITTEE
In 2017, CAJM will be launching its new
Emerging Professionals Committee to encourage conversations and create experiences for those launching careers in our field. Led by Grace Astrove (right) and Natalia Miller (left), both of the Jewish Museum, the committee will develop
networking
opportunities, disseminate information, and meet for an annual social gathering. We would be delighted if each CAJM member institution had a representative on the committee! If you are interested in participating, please contact Grace Astrove. Also, a limited number of fellowships will be awarded for emerging professionals to attend the March conference. See guidelines here; applications will be accepted through January 17th.
