Summit Speakers - Keynotes and Breakouts
As mentioned in a previous newsletter, we are happy to announce Dr. Phil Goff and
Dr. Charles Davis II
as our morning and afternoon Summit keynote speakers. Please click here for more information about their work.

This month, we would also like to give you a quick look at another one of our Breakout Session speakers.

Faith Breakout Session Speaker - Ron White
Ron White holds an M.A. in Comparative Religion from Miami University (OH) and has done graduate work in Administrative Leadership at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Combined with twenty-five years of consulting work with and for grantmakers from a variety of foundations--private, religious grantmakers, family foundations, individual donors, and public charities--Ron has held several positions in the field, including senior program officer, program director, executive director, and board trustee.

His work for the Catholic Church at the diocesan and national levels evaluating and recommending grants for community organizing groups across the midwest and west initiated his career in social justice philanthropy.  Ron says that his long-term practice of mediation has accompanied him in a lifelong pursuit of blending spirituality and social justice.

We look forward to hearing Ron share his perspectives on faith and social justice!

Migrant Mentoring Program - Now Accepting Applications

The 2017 Migrant Mentoring Program is now accepting applications for those who wish to become mentors.

Did you know each year, nearly 6,000 children accompany their parents to Ottawa County from February to late November? This stream of seasonal workers from Texas, many of whom are second and third generation, has existed for more than 30 years. It is the largest population of seasonal workers in Michigan.

The Migrant Mentoring Program matches children from local migrant camps with community volunteers. The program is designed to build cultural bridges between the larger community and the migrant worker population, while meeting the social and educational needs of the children.

Wondering what the letters 'GHACF' before the date on a couple of those workshops mean?  It means a potential opportunity for a FREE diversity education workshop provided to your organization by a grant from the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation.  If you're in the Tri-Cities area in Northwest Ottawa County, this could apply to you.  However, time is running out on this opportunity for a free workshop.  Please contact Alfredo Hernandez by email or by phone ( 616.846.9074 ) for more information.
