Assembly Transportation Committee Chairman John Wisniewski, RC '84, and Ali Maher, Director of the Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (CAIT), unveiled revolutionary technology that simulates how transportation infrastructure will weather time. By simulating 30 years of wear and tear in just six months of testing, the BEAST - Bridge Evaluation and Accelerated Structural Testing Laboratory - is the first of its kind in the world, and located in Piscataway. RU-Camden Pitching Ace Signs with Phillies
Rutgers University-Camden pitcher Jeff Singer has signed a major league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. The southpaw, with a fastball that tops 95 miles per hour, will join the ranks of Todd Frazier, the Rutgers University-New Brunswick superstar who plays for the Cincinnati Reds and who won the 2015 MLB Home Run Derby. Singer got his professional start with the Camden Riversharks this summer, making his professional debut with the Riversharks on July 17. Three days later, he worked 2-2/3 shutout innings against the Somerset Patriots, walking two and striking out two without allowing a hit. Read more here.
RU-Newark Grad at Cambridge on Prestigious Gates Scholarship
Rutgers University-Newark alumna Merve Fejzula, Class of 2011, is one of only 94 scholars in the world to be awarded a 2015 Gates Cambridge Scholarship from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The scholarship will allow her to earn her doctoral degree at the esteemed English university, only the ninth Rutgers graduate in the 14-year history of the program to receive one of the world's most prestigious international scholarships.
