It's A Bird. It's A Fish. It's A Drone.
The Office of Naval Research has awarded Rutgers University a grant to develop a drone - equally adept at flying through the air and navigating underwater - that could speed search-and-rescue operations, monitor the spread of oil spills and even help the Navy rapidly defuse threats from underwater mines. Javier Diez, a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, had been exploring the concept for years with the help of his graduate and undergraduate students. More here.
RU-Newark Highlighted By White House For STEM Access
      
Since 2009, Rutgers University-Newark has served as the lead institution in the Garden State Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation, during which time an 84% increase in Latinos/as graduating in STEM fields of study has occurred. The program's success has now been nationally recognized: The program now has been named a "Bright Spot in Hispanic Education" by The White House Initiative of Educational Excellence for Hispanics. RU-Camden Partners With Historic European Medical School
  
The Rutgers School of Nursing-Camden is expanding its global reach through a new collaboration with Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary, that will allow the two higher education institutions to collaborate on academics, research and scholarship programs. Semmelweis University is Hungary's oldest medical school and one of Europe's leading centers of medicine and health sciences. The first step in the collaboration will be a faculty and student exchange program that will begin during the fall 2016 semester, as well as the establishment of joint research activities. Exclusive Access to the International Spy Museum in Washington, D.C.
As part of the Rutgers University Alumni Association's Alumni on Location series, friends of Rutgers are invited to the International Spy Museum for exclusive access and a presentation by Peter J. Ahearn CC'76. Ahearn's experience includes a 29-year career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and two years as a Senior Advisor with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI). It is the only public museum in the United States solely dedicated to espionage and the only one in the world to provide a global perspective on an all-but-invisible profession that has shaped history and continues to have a significant impact on world events.
