MCAS Season is Approaching!

If your child will be taking MCAS this Spring, now is a great time to start preparing. MCAS is an important part of their education and for students in high school, it is also a graduation requirement.

Students in grades 3-8 take the ELA and Mathematics tests and students in grades 5 and 8 also have to take the STE (Science and Technology/Engineering).

Students in high school must receive a scaled score of at least 220 on one of the STE MCAS exams and a scaled score of at least 240 on the 10th grade ELA and Mathematics MCAS
in order to graduate.

There are also scholarships given to students with high performance on the MCAS exams. The John and Abigail Adams Scholarship waives tuition for up to 8 semesters at a public Massachusetts college or university. According to the Massachusetts Department of Education website, in order to receive this scholarship, the student must:
  • score at the Advanced performance level on one of the three high school state assessment tests in ELA, Mathematics, or STE (Biology, Chemistry, Introductory Physics, or Technology/Engineering); and
  • score at the Proficient level or higher on the remaining two high school state assessment tests; and
  • have combined scores from the three tests that place them in the top 25 percent of students in the graduating class in their district.
Below are the most pertinent MCAS test dates for 2017:

High School Biology (February 6-7)

10th Grade ELA (March 21-23)

10th Grade Mathematics (May 16-17)

High School STE (June 5-6)
