Volunteers Steal the Show
As a non-profit agency, so much of what Interfaith is able to accomplish would not be possible without the incredible support of our compassionate and driven volunteers. Over the last year, we have been blessed with so many wonderful volunteers. Let's meet two of the great ladies who are here in our office week after week lending their skills to help make Interfaith Ministries a success.

Cherryl Cassidy started volunteering for us in December of 2016. She helps us with various administrative duties and has taken on the tedious task of electronically archiving all of our records. Cherryl is twice retired. She worked nearly 30 years with the City of Dallas Police Auto Pound. When she retired she thought, "I'm not EVER going back to work."

However, it was just 7 months before she began working for Delta Airlines--by accident. She had given a friend who applied to Delta a lift to her job interview. Cherryl's friend was long gone when Cherryl retired from Delta after 15 years.

That was in 2015, and Cherryl thought, "This time I'm definitely retired." Volunteering for Cherryl is not a job. "It's just kinda fun. I truly enjoy coming here." Cherryl is drawn especially to our Apple Tree Program and the Prescription/Medical Assistance we provide.

Faye Hudson began serving with us in the fall of 2016 as a volunteer caseworker. Faye was familiar with IFM's social services because she is a retired registered nurse and home health director. She has been focusing on client communications and information management. She recently completed a financial training that will allow her to bring more financial education and coaching services to our clients.

She is now one year into her retirement. "I have done a lot of things I wanted to do in the first year, and goofing off was great, but I felt like it was time to give back." Faye said, "When I first started I was surprised [IFM] had funds to help with medications and vision care. To help so many people with rent and electricity, those are huge basic needs for people in dire straits at a place they thought they'd never be."

We are so thankful to have Cherryl and Faye as a part of the team and as a part of the Interfaith family. Thank you ladies!
NEW! IFM Mini Food Pantry
New year, new services at Interfaith Ministries! Over the last year, our staff has recognized the need among our clients for a non-perishable food pantry. Most of the time, when clients come to Interfaith to learn about community services such as food pantries, we must refer them to our local partner agencies whose operating hours may leave these families waiting to receive service until the next time the pantry is open.

To help bridge this gap and provide for the immediate needs of our clients, Interfaith Ministries will begin offering our clients access to our new mini food pantry which will house a limited assortment of non-perishable, easily opened, ready-to-eat food items. To facilitate this project, we need your help! Please bring donations of non-perishable, easily opened, ready-to-eat food items to the Interfaith Ministries office located at 1109 N. Elm Street.
Looking Back on 2016
What a year! In 2016, there were so many wonderful projects, programs, and services that showed what an incredible impact we were able to make in our community thanks to the kind and devoted support of donors and community members like you.

As IFM Board Chairman, Darhyl Ramsey looks back on programs like the Apple Tree Project, he remembers the joy and excitement of our annual back-to-school Distribution Day. Darhyl said, "It is always a very happy time for the children." Darhyl also recalls what a festive evening IFM's first annual Wine Tasting and Silent Auction was and said, "I enjoyed seeing so many people having a great time and supporting Interfaith Ministries."

Rebecca Dake, our resident social medi a guru,  looks back on her year here at IFM with AmeriCorps  VISTA. "Before I started my one-year term of service with IFM," she said, "I was unaware of the desperate needs of so many living in Denton." Rebecca has been instrumental documenting the people that we serve and the stories that they have to tell which illustrate the need in our community and the impact that your donations have made in addressing those needs.

As we move on into another year here at Interfaith Ministries, it is sobering to look back and take stock of the lives we have touched, and to press on in the hope that we will touch many more in the year to come.
