Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD is excited to announce that it has been designated as a District of Innovation (DOI). This designation allows school districts greater local control over decisions and systems currently governed by Texas law, which means EMS ISD now has more flexibility to design solutions that meet the specific needs of our students and community.
The District of Innovation concept was passed into law during the 84th Legislative Session in 2015. Under this law, Districts of Innovation may be exempted from a number of state statutes that mandate programs and operations such as: school start/end dates, class size ratios, student discipline provisions, teacher contracts and benefits, as well as the 90% attendance rule for credit. Standards such as graduation requirements and academic accountability are still left to state and federal control.
"We are excited about becoming a District of Innovation as it gives us opportunities to better serve our students based on the needs, desires, and expectations of our local community," said Dr. Linda Parker, Deputy Superintendent. "With this designation we are able to have flexibility in specific areas to enhance programs, schedules, and operations for the betterment of our students."
