What it really looked like Thanks, Mike Bishop
Crowds more than a mile back despite bad weather and threats

++ During President Trump's speech, he made a promise to the American people.
At the beginning of his speech,
he said:
For too long, a small group in our nation's capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have bore the cost. Washington flourished, but the people did not share in its wealth. Politicians prospered but the jobs left and the factories closed.
The establishment protected itself, but not the citizens of our country. Their victories have not been your victories. Their triumphs have not been your triumphs. And while they celebrated in our nation's capital, there was little to celebrate for struggling families all across our land.
That all changes starting right here and right now, because this moment is your moment.   It belongs to you.

++ This is an incredibly touching story of a young man going to the Inaugural in borrowed suit and meeting the President, leaving with a $10,000 check!, and it really illustrates why middle America voted for Donald Trump. For the first time in a long time, the American people feel like the president has their back. Article

National Debt Clock  HERE
The debt is now about 130% of the total GDP - 30% more than the total annual economic activity of the entire country. As a comparison, it hit a peak of 30% GDP under President Reagan. There must be a massive shrinkage of governments to reset a growing economy.
Many think the REAL debt including, unfunded liabilities and the "black" budget never seen by the public, is about $127T. The total net worth of the USA including "intellectual power" has been estimated at about $ 88T. We are bankrupt. Politicians need to find a way of extracting this debt from future generations, without destroying the capitalism that makes wealth possible.

++ Trump's first "Constitutional crisis": A Federal Judge Just Blocked Trump's Immigration Ban - for Now -In an emergency hearing in a Brooklyn courthouse, Judge Ann Donnelly of the Eastern District of New York issued a stay of proceedings for President Donald Trump's executive order, which bars citizens of seven predominantly Muslim countries-Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. The judge neither allowed detainees to enter the country nor addressed the constitutionality of Trump's actions. The Stay covers the airport detainees and those currently in transit. It doesn't change ban going forward. Article   Judge Ann Donnelly was nominated by former President Barack Obama on the recommendation from Chuck Schumer. Link

++ Trump's Border Patrol Defies Judge, U.S. Senator at Dulles Airport as His First Constitutional Crisis Unfolds - Late Saturday night, in the jam-packed baggage terminal for international arrivals at Washington Dulles International Airport, dozens of lawyers and hundreds of protesters watched as the first major Constitutional crisis of the Trump presidency played out.
At about 7:30 p.m., a boisterous crowd of several hundred pro-refugee protesters had circled around the "International Arrivals" baggage claim at Dulles-flanked by police who cleared a passageway so people getting off planes could get through. Protesters waved signs saying refugees were welcome (some signs read "Welcome" in Arabic), denouncing President Trump, and calling for Christians to show Christlike love to people fleeing terrorism. They carried "Welcome Home" balloons and they sang songs. More

++3 'triggers' for Islamic uprising under Trump presidency - Trump's executive orders slapping a 120-day moratorium on refugee resettlement and a 30-day ban on those entering on visas from seven terror-sponsoring countries has been met with protests Sunday at airports in New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit and Minneapolis.
There were no such protests when former President Obama restricted Christian refugees from entering the U.S. from Syria, Egypt, Pakistan and other Muslim countries.
A former Homeland Security officer who spent years screening Muslim immigrants points to three "triggers" of confrontation between the new administration of Donald Trump and the global Islamic movement. The "flashpoints" to watch going forward are these: Moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem; Declaring the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization; Restricting Islamic immigration into the U.S. More (Thanks, Dick)

The provisions currently in Section 212(f)-which have been part of the INA since its enactment in 1952.  It states, in relevant part, that Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate. ++ It's official policy now: Trump to renegotiate NAFTA -  Donald Trump's new administration wasted no time setting as official policy the renegotiation of the NAFTA and the withdrawal from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, expected moves that may send shock waves through the automotive industry.
...On Friday, shortly after Trump was sworn in, the administration pledged to negotiate "tough and fair" trade agreements with the goal of creating more U.S. jobs as one of its top policy issues posted on Whitehouse.gov.
"This strategy starts by withdrawing from the Trans-Pacific Partnership and making certain that any new trade deals are in the interests of American workers," the statement says. "President Trump is committed to renegotiating NAFTA. If our partners refuse a renegotiation that gives American workers a fair deal, then the President will give notice of the United States' intent to withdraw from NAFTA."
NAFTA has contributed to a decline in U.S. manufacturing jobs, but it has led to massive automotive industry investment in Mexico and the growth of a supplier network there.   Nearly every automaker - both foreign and domestic - has built new plants in Mexico in recent years. Mexico has surpassed Canada in annual vehicle production. More  (Thanks, Trey)

++ The U.S. has announced withdrawal from the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) according to Asian Nikkei Review and Strait Times
The trade pact was championed by former President Barack Obama and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe but President Trump puts "America First" and insists on fair trade deals.
The White House on Friday also wasted no time in declaring a renegotiation of the North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement, or NAFTA.
The international community is afraid he will become protectionist. Trump has said he wants trade, but "fair trade deals" that also benefit the United States More

++ Standing in front of a memorial for fallen CIA agents, Trump assured intelligence officials, "I am so behind you." He made no mention of his repeated criticism of the intelligence agencies following the election, including his public challenges of their high-confidence assessment that Russia meddled in the White House race to help him win."There is nobody that feels stronger about the intelligence community and CIA than Donald Trump," he said, blaming any suggestion of a "feud" on the media.Trump's decision to travel to CIA headquarters so quickly after taking office was seen as an attempt at a fresh start with the intelligence agencies he will now rely on for guidance as he makes weighty national security decisions. Following his private meeting with top CIA leaders, Trump said the U.S. had been "restrained" in its efforts to combat terrorism, calling the threat "a level of evil we haven't seen."Article

++ Mexico's president Enrique Peña Nieto, trying to dictate American policies,  sent out a message to so-called migrants from his country who are now living in America - code for illegals - that said this: We'll shelter you from President Donald Trump's deportation storm. Peña Nieto's remarks came after Trump signed executive orders curbing illegal immigration and tightening border security.
In other words, Peña Nieto is trying to insert his own policies into the United States, over the will of the American people, despite the sovereign status of the United States and the governing doctrines of the U.S. Constitution, and regardless of Trump's executive powers. More  (Thanks, Pamela)

++ Mexican president cancels meeting with Trump - Trump broached the possibility of cancellation in a pair of tweets earlier Thursday that also complained about trade relations, saying that "the U.S. has a 60 billion dollar trade deficit with Mexico. It has been a one-sided deal from the beginning of NAFTA with massive numbers of jobs and companies lost."  More

Comment: Mexico has a fence at their southern border. It is hypocrisy to complain the USA can't protect its border as Mexico does theirs. Pay for the wall with money formerly given to Mexico in foreign aid, and with money captured by improving the trade deficit, and a border tax equal to what they charge. Maybe a tax on transfer payments from USA companies and migrant workers back to Mexico? We cannot allow countries to charge 19% duty while we charge 2.5% or less (nothing from Mexico and Canada?). If you do not have border security you do not have a Country.

++ Education Department report finds billions spent under Obama had 'no impact' on achievement - The Obama administration pumped more than $7 billion into an education program, first authorized under President George W. Bush, that had no impact on student achievement - according to a report released by the Department of Education in the final days of the 44th president's term.
The Department of Education's findings were contained in its "School Improvement Grants: Implementation and Effectiveness" report. The study could energize the debate over national education policy just as the Senate considers President Trump's controversial pick to lead the department, Betsy DeVos, an outspoken school choice advocate who has questioned the way federal education dollars are spent.

++ What happens when doctors only take cash?  A 2015 Blue Cross Blue Shield study found that one hospital in Dallas billed $16,772 for a knee replacement while another in the same area charged $61,585.
It was in the midst of this confounding research that Villa, who's 68, heard about the Surgery Center of Oklahoma, whose business model is different from that of most hospitals. There, the all-inclusive price for every operation is listed on the website. A rotator-cuff repair for the shoulder costs $8,260. A surgical procedure for carpal tunnel syndrome is $2,750. Setting and casting a basic broken leg: $1,925.  "We say, 'Here's the price. Here's what you're getting. Here's your bill,'" says Keith Smith, who co-founded the Surgery Center in 1997 with fellow anesthesiologist Steven Lantier. "It's as simple as that."    More

Comment: There is no transparency in medicine, so there is no competition and prices soar. Clinics side by side can have drastically different prices and results, but you would never know you paid twice as much for care that was half as effective as next door. Why is there no consumers reports on medical care (or legal serviced for that matter)? Same with medicines. The pharmacists will not quote prices. If paying cash you cannot compare because they will not quote you until delivery. You will never know how much they are billing your insurance. So prices keep climbing. We will get more competition in insurance when the Trump Administration intervenes and allows cross-state competition. Time for a change. MCU-SE plans a meeting on Health Care in Troy March 14.

++ The vulgarities our children witnessed with the nasty women march: Link (Thanks, Casey)

++ Anti-Trump "Women's March" - Celebrity Profanity, Media Duplicity - The much-hyped Women's March on Washington delivered the big anti-Trump crowds and anti-Trump message its organizers hoped for. But this "success" may turn out to be counterproductive, since the images, profanity, hatred, and incivility projected by the participants will only serve to further polarize America. Moreover, it will confirm to millions of Americans that the liberal-left elites living in the Hollywood-Manhattan-D.C. Beltway-San Francisco bubble are completely out of touch with the concerns of real people and real families.
Madonna, the tramp/vamp who has ridden vulgarity to fame and fortune, delivered a rant in which she admitted she has contemplated terrorism against the new president, fantasizing about blowing up the White House. thousands of women gather on the National Mall in Washington,

Sources confirm the Women's March on Washington, co-sponsored by Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice America, invites women of all walks of life to join together and express their views, except for those who disagree with the event's official platform, which includes uncompromising support for open access to legalized abortion.
"I strongly defend a woman's right to choose to fully agree with me on unlimited and unhindered access to abortion for any reason," said Cecile Richards, CEO of Planned Parenthood and featured speaker at the march. "Women of all cultures, political affiliations, and backgrounds must be free to choose to align themselves with our exact political stance on this issue.

Comment: Maybe 500,000 radical females rallied in D.C., Lansing and other cities today. It was not about women's rights, it was about abortion.
30,000,000 women voted for Donald Trump November 8, far more than voted for their radical candidate, and 60x as many as rallied today. Do they really think President Trump will bow down to their Misandry (hatred against men and boys) and Childism (hatred against children)? Trump has surrounded him self with real women, and given them real power. At the core of these demonstrations are some hardened anti-American socialist/communists. This is how these "women" respected the environment they also demonstrate for.

++ If Your Sex Life is None of My Business Stop Demanding I Finance It - desperate to keep its nearly half a billion dollars in taxpayer funding each year, the No. 1 abortion group in the nation has been using the issue of birth control to drum up support.
In hyperbolic terms, its leaders claim that if Planned Parenthood is defunded and the Affordable Care Act repealed, women will no longer have access to birth control, and the government will rule over women's bodies. These claims are wrong in many different ways, not the least of which is that the defunding effort is prompted by Planned Parenthood's abortion business, not birth control.  Birth control is readily available without Planned Parenthood...More

++ Congresswoman Returns From Syria With 'Proof' Obama Funded ISIS - Hawaii Democrat Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, (a Major in Hawaii National Guard who has deployed to Iraq, Kuwait and Indonesia)  went to Syria on a secret fact-finding mission to wade through the lies and propaganda and find out what is really happening on the ground.
Immediately on her return CNN booked her for an "exclusive" interview - and Gabbard told them exactly what they didn't want to hear: she has proof the Obama administration was funding ISIS and Al-Qaeda.   (About Gabbard)
Explaining to Jake Tapper that she met people from all walks of life in Aleppo and Damascus, Gabbard said that Syrians "expressed happiness and joy at seeing an American walking their streets." But they also wanted to know "why is it that the United States, its allies and other countries, are providing support, are providing arms, to terrorist groups like Al-Nusra, Al-Qaeda, ISIS, who are on the ground there, raping, kidnapping, torturing, and killing the Syrian people?
"They asked me why is the United States supporting these terrorist groups who are destroying Syria - when it was Al-Qaeda who attacked the United States on 9/11, not Syria. I didn't have an answer for that."...every place that I went, every person I spoke to, I asked this question to them. The average payment made by a taxpayer was about $470 and the median payment about $330. The mandate penalty for 2015 was $325 per adult and $162.50 per family or 2 percent of household income.

Taxpayers forked over $3 billion to the federal government in 2015 because they didn't have health insurance, under Obamacare's individual mandate penalty.

In 1999, on the eve of Hillary Clinton's U.S. Senate run in New York, her husband, President Clinton, commuted the sentences of 16 imprisoned FALN members. But Lopez Rivera reportedly turned the offer down, refusing to be released unless all of his comrades were released from prison.

++  Correction. Last issue we reported on a Federal lawsuit filed by student harasses for passing out  U.S. Constitutions on their campus. We stated it was at Kalamazoo College, while it actually happened at Kellogg College. We apologize for the mistake. The article linked clearly stated the correct institution.
"By policy and practice, Kellogg Community College ... claims the unchecked right to prohibit students from engaging in practically any constitutionally protected expression anywhere on campus unless they first obtain permission from KCC officials," the lawsuit says. The alliance also says the plaintiffs' Fourteenth Amendment rights to due process and equal protection under the law were also violated. Here is another Article

Michigan Republican Party To Select New Leadership
As Vice President Mike Pence says it: We are for God, Family and Country in that order. Party is a means, not an end. Elections are a necessary evil that is the way we implement civics in a constitutional republic. Those who feel politics is only about elections, concede policies to those who understand what elections and parties are really all about.

Thoughts and opinions: With a vacancy in the state GOP chair two candidates announced and one has bowed out. The lone remaining candidate is Ron Weiser who served as Chair previously, and in November was elected to the University of Michigan Board of Regents. The last time he was Chair his wife Eileen was nominated by the Party and elected to the State Board of Education. Her term is up in 2018, giving him an additional incentive to control the state GOP.
The GOP has changed a lot over the years. Three former Chairs have their own political operations outside the Party, some think taking resources from the Party, and using these entities to control the Party by opposing conservative delegates, and supporting "moderate" candidates in Republican primaries. The Governor also has such an operation.
While previous candidates have boasted about how much they raised for the Michigan Republican Party, we do not hear that this year. Some believe and under-achieving state Party is what prompted Ron Weiser to seek the office again. Weiser has chosen Amanda Van Essen Wirth as his co-chair. Amanda was the Chairman of the Ottawa GOP in 2016 and previously served as Vice Chairman. She is a Captain in the Michigan Army National Guard and Brigade Judge Advocate. She was a delegate for John Kasich in Cleveland, one of two who refused to vote for Donald Trump. Her tenure in Ottawa was marked with a purge of several conservative leaders.
Mr. Weiser (he likes to be called Ambassador, based on his service 2001-2005 in Slovakia in the George W. Bush Administration) angered several county and district chairs during his 2009-2011 term for what some called "dictatorial" and "condescending" treatment. We have worked on some of the same projects as Mr. Weiser (like Freedom To Work) but there was little communication or coordination in those efforts. He did provide limited resources for materials we distributed to defeat Proposal 2 in 2012.
Weiser says he wants to put forth the "A" team for 2018. We believe the GOP may be in trouble in Michigan in 2018. The tax and fee increases have been onerous, and removal of tax credits for energy and excessive property taxes has hurt thousands of families.
Michigan Republicans got a pass in 2016 as the candidate they were afraid to support and thought would bring them down, saved their bacon with long coat tails and hundreds of thousands of new voters. We recognize Ron Weiser's skills and commitment but believe there is between the establishment in the GOP and conservative grass roots.
There will be no pass without meaningful changes. Conservatives will look for a strategic partnership, not a condescending dictation, and we need to see Michigan Republicans to uphold their stated principles by cutting spending and taxes and revert power to local governments where possible. There were some really nasty county conventions that did not exhibit any signs of cooperation and trying to assemble a full team for 2018. We will have our first clue for 2018 as we see how Team Weiser control the upcoming convention. .

++ What, exactly, is "unity"?  More taxes, more regulations, more marginalizing patriots who would have for Michigan what we hope to have for a new USA? A wise victor does not ignore detractors who have a different vision - one closer to the victor's alleged principles and platform. What we are more likely to see is significant atrophy, which will allow the Relentless PROGRESSIVE Action to race on with less resistance. Might as well welcome the Dems into the GOP caucus instead of keeping up the ruse. We do not think that is good for Michigan but Mayflower and Atlas Moving will love it.

Co-Chair:  Amanda Van Essen Wirth  [email protected]

Administrative Vice-Chair: Tami Carlone  [email protected]  , Gerry Hildenbrand  [email protected]   David Wolkinson  [email protected]
Wolkinson is the incumbent. In his two previous terms we have not seen much activity or difference. Hildebrand used to be a conservative, we think, but has been linked at the hip with the establishment for the last several years. Some believe he will be their candidate. Carlone is a conservative education activist active with Lakes tea Party and the BattleCry folks. She was a Kasich delegate in Cleveland but did vote for Trump. While sometimes difficult to work with, she has been in the fight and is likely the most conservative in the race.

Grassroots Vice-Chair: Mark Gurley  [email protected]  Denise Pallarito  [email protected]
Mark Gurley is an insurance executive very active with the Life and Evangelical communities. We is articulate, energetic and active. We believe Mark Gurley will be much more effective and will help keep conservatives engaged with the GOP.
Denice Pallarito is a staffer for Rep. Triston Cole and previously for Congressman Benishek. She was selected by the Republican State Committee after Wendy Day was removed from the position. This is a volunteer position that requires

Ethnic Vice-Chair: Tyrell Bundy [email protected]  Mike Farage  [email protected]  Terris Todd  [email protected]

Tyrell Bundy has been on the Republican State Committee and was a National Delegate who also went to the Inaugural of President Trump. He is on the 13th District Committee where he has successfully reached out into ethnic communities. "He helped with Right to Work.  He helped fight Medicaid expansion.  He helped fight the gas tax increase.  He supports Common Core repeal and constitutional carry.  It's hard to beat a long history of fighting for conservative causes." Tony DeMott.  We feel Tyrell Bundy is the preferred candidate for this position.

Farage is known as a dirty trick political operative that often backs Democrats. He has angered some Republican legislators with campaign materials they think are unprincipled. We believe he was complicit in a fake email last August stealing and misusing our logos, format and links.

Terris Todd served five terms as a Democrat County Commissioner. Losing the Democrat primary for State Rep in 2014 he then ran as a write-in, helping elect the Republican. He has worked for that legislator (Dr, Bizon, 43% MCU rating) as has his wife. Supporting the entire Democrat ticket for more than 10 years, up until two years ago, is of concern for top state GOP office. His relationship with radical SCLC organizer Julian Bond needs study. Some of our members support him, some don't We think he has lots of potential but should improve his Republican credentials fbefore serving as a statewide GOP official.

Coalitions Vice-Chair: Kevin Tatulyan  [email protected]

Youth Vice-Chair: Michael Banerian  [email protected]

Outreach Vice-Chair: Thomas Norton [email protected],  Benjamin Soltis  [email protected]  Kenneth Lloyd  [email protected]

Tom Norton has been a very effective strategic partner with MCU as a member and participant at MiCPAC events, a successful businessman employing about 19, head of Michigan iCaucus, a Village President who actually cut taxes, and a veteran who has made a huge difference in suicide prevention and rebuilding Legion and VFW posts while recruiting veterans for the conservative cause. Experience counts. Marketing skills is a huge plus. Being able to work with establishment and conservatives is an intangible of significance, and his endorsements are building rapidly in both quarters. Tom's business takes him to much of the state and into minority communities. He has the resources to be very effective. Tom Norton is the perfect match for Outreach Vice Chair!

Soltis graduated from college in 2016. He was involved with the student senate at GVSU. It did not humor people in politics when he introduced himself as a senator, implying a legislator. His experience is limited and shallow, and we found no difficulty in finding detractors.

Lloyd is a bright young conservative who is physically limited by cerebral palsy. He is working on a masters degree and that might also limit availability. Frankly, we really like Kenneth. But with Norton available to outreach with veterans, Life, Evangelical, millennial and minority communities, it isn't even close.     Jill Stein's recount efforts in Michigan have uncovered what looks like systemic election fraud in Detroit, where roughly 95% of the votes cast were cast for Hillary Clinton. Sixty percent of precincts in Wayne County had to be disqualified from the statewide recount because of "irregularities." According to Fox News judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano, those irregularities look "organized" and "government involved."
Overall, state records show 10.6 percent of the precincts in the 22 counties that began the retabulation process couldn't be recounted because of state law that bars recounts for unbalanced precincts or ones with broken seals.
The problems were the worst in Detroit, where discrepancies meant officials couldn't recount votes in 392 precincts, or nearly 60 percent. And two-thirds of those precincts had too many votes.  Article

Michigan Legislature
++ Senate kicks off 2017 with bills to repeal prevailing wage.  Senate bills 1, 2 and 3 would repeal the state's prevailing wage laws, and they've got support from A, B and C.  The Association of Builders and Contractors, that is.
The state's prevailing wage law applies union-level wages to job sites for public projects like schools and government buildings. The Associated Builders and Contractors have supported its repeal, including through a  failed ballot proposalin 2015.  "For years, our schools, universities, and state government have been forced to overspend taxpayer dollars on construction projects, instead of hiring the best company for the best price," said Jeff Wiggins, State Director of ABC.
One other indicator of this being a big priority is that Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof, R-West Olive, is a bill sponsor, along with Sen. Peter MacGregor, R-Rockford and Sen. David Robertson, R-Grand Blanc.  More  Last session it passed the
Senate but stalled in the House.

++ Republican state Sen. Jack Brandenburg said he is preparing sweeping legislation to eliminate Michigan's personal income tax, arguing a "game changer" is needed to help retain and draw new residents in the face of sluggish population growth. Brandenburg argues scrapping the income tax would boost the state economy by giving residents more disposable income to spend at Michigan businesses. The second-term Harrison Township Republican plans to introduce legislation this month and convene a work group to consider tax policy options.
As part of his plan to scrap the state's 4.25 percent personal income tax, Brandenburg told The Detroit News he may propose to increase the state's 6 percent sales tax to offset some of the anticipated revenue loss from killing the income tax. He anticipates budget cuts would also be necessary.
"After six years of tax increases, working families and seniors absolutely deserve a tax break from this administration," Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich, D-Flint said.
Michigan collected more than $9.3 billion in personal income taxes in the 2016 fiscal year, according to the non-partisan Senate Fiscal Agency. It was the largest single source of revenue for the state.
Most income tax revenue goes toward the state's general fund, which is used to pay for various government functions. Roughly 30 percent goes to the School Aid Fund for K-12 education. Sales taxes generated about $7.3 billion last fiscal year, by comparison, with roughly 73 percent going to schools, 16 percent to the general fund and 10 percent to local units of government.
"the issue is where do you get the money to run government?" Snyder told The News in a year-end interview. "Those are the challenges."  More
   COMMENT: We want to help!!!
With all due respects, Governor, That is not the most important issue. What is State government doing it does not have to do? What can you cut? When will you implement a zero-based review of budgets, contracts and expenditures? Why are you paying contractors 25%+/- more than you need to through artificial "prevailing wages"? When will state employee compensation and benefits come in line with those you supposedly serve? Why give a billion dollar$ a year to certain favored businesses and individuals? Why keep up the appearance (and costs) of  full time legislature at full pay, that has sessions less than 90 days a year? Why does every legislator need to have an office with a view of the Capitol? Why keep increasing education budgets $250 million each year when student population is decreasing by thousands of students and quality is flat-lined? The list could go on. The fact of the matter is, the Michigan State Government has become bloated and wasteful and more intrusive under Republican leadership. It is not a good legacy.

Project Kirk is designed for us to better understand the true precepts of what he called "The Permanent Things." Russell was the writer that Reagan, Goldwater, Wm. F. Buckley, Jr. and so many others read and referred to as the founder of modern conservatism. Share his wisdom with others
"the essential principles of government [include] . . . freedom of religion; freedom the press; freedom of person under the protection of the habeas corpus; and trial by juries impartially selected - these principles form the bright constellation which has gone before us, and guided our steps through an age of revolution of reformation. The wisdom of our sages and the blood of our heroes have been devoted to their attainment. They should be the creed of our political   faith - the text of civil instruction - the touchstone by which to try the series of those we trust . . . ." Thomas Jefferson, First Inaugural Address, March 4, 1801.
Jefferson's enumeration of unalienable rights and limited government as being the political creed and touchstones of our republic still speaks to us today. In this age of mass political polarization, we should be united on some basic foundations - a "creed" as Jefferson termed it. Those founding First Principles articulated in the Declaration of Independence and embedded in the Constitution. IF we remain united on those, we have a chance for our republic to survive for generations. If not, then not.
