Dear Friends,
As we start the annual celebration of Catholic education known as, Catholic Schools Week, it gives me great pleasure to announce the addition of a new after school activity to be launched next month.
Thanks to a generous donation from the Knights of Columbus Council 11077 here at Our Lady of the Assumption Church I was able to purchase three Lego Mindstorm robotics kits. Under the guidance of our technology teacher, Mr. Ambrogio, students in grades 5-8 will begin to learn the basics of robotics and computer programing.

This type of hands on learning, using the most modern technology will reinforce problem solving and creative skills vital for our ever changing world. Many of the careers our students will make their living in have yet to be created. It is important to expose our students to new experiences and provide them with the tools for success in the future. This is only the first step in the process of providing cutting edge programs for our students. My hope is to offer similar 21st century learning opportunities to all Assumption students in the years to come.
This investment in our children could not be possible without the support, guidance, and freedom afforded to us as a Catholic school. Our pastor, Father Cipriani and Grand Knight, Jeff Thompson, see the value of Catholic education here at Assumption and continue to support our mission of developing our students to be contributing members of the world beyond our school walls.

Catholic Schools Week is Here!
January 29 - February 5
Catholic Schools Week is a national event recognizing the unique strength and character of Catholic schools. It is a celebration of our schools and Assumption Catholic School wants you to get involved.
An official calendar of events will be published next week, but the planning committee can use your help and invites you to attend some of our exciting activities.
Celebrate our Students - Kickoff Assembly
Monday morning we will kick off the week with an assembly in the Parish Hall. Parents are invited to attend. On this day we will celebrate the success of our students. If your child has won awards in activities outside of school we want to know about it and celebrate it on that day. Did your son's baseball team win a championship? Did your daughter earn a higher belt in karate? Help us recognize our students!
Celebrate our Community - Classroom Presentations
Throughout the week the committee invites parents and families to come in to classrooms to share a special talent or talk about their career. This is a way to expose our students to opportunities in the community. Maybe we will inspire them to pursue a career in medicine or law based on your presentation. Scheduling of these visits are flexible.
Celebrate our Parish - Grandparents/Special Person Day
On Friday the entire school will celebrate Mass with Father Cipriani in the beautiful Our Lady of the Assumption Church. All students are asked to invite their grandparents or someone special to them, such as a neighbor or family member. A light breakfast will be served in the Parish Hall for the visitors and they will attend Mass with the students at 9:00 AM. After Mass all visitors are invited to stop by the classrooms for special activities and to see their students in action.

2017-18 Bishop Scholarship Fund Applications
BSF Application Process Opens February 1
All families should have received a registration packet for next year. Included in that packet was the application for the Bishop's Scholarship Fund.
Any family seeking financial assistance of any kind must complete the paper application and the online FACTS financial needs assessment to be considered for financial assistance in 2017-2018.
Financial assistance is granted on a yearly basis.
No BSF application can be submitted for consideration without a signature from the school principal certifying that the students have been accepted and enrolled at the school and the $200 fee has been paid.
The deadline for the BSF application is April 1. Notification of awards will begin on April 15. Applications will be considered in the order in which they are received.
Assumption will host a financial assistance night to help with the application process later in February.

Clarification
Items Purchased Through Dennis Uniform can be Worn During the School Day
The official school uniform is outlined on our website, click here for a link to the uniform section of the homepage. Below are some guidelines to remind you of the uniform expectations.
Sweatshirts
Only the 8th grade has permission to wear hooded sweatshirts as part of the official uniform.
All other students may wear their spirit wear sweatshirts to school, but they will be asked to take them off during the school day. There are several options available through Dennis Uniform if your child is cold in the traditional uniform during the day.
On dress uniform days girls can wear the cardigan sweater and boys can wear the sweater or sweater vest over their shirt and tie. Both boys and girls can wear the long sleeve or fleece vest throughout the day.
Shoes and Sneakers
Casual shoes such as loafers, boat shoes, Mary Janes, or lace up dress shoes are to be worn on dress uniform days. Boots or sneakers are not acceptable!
Modest sneakers are to be worn on gym days. Sneakers should be of a solid color, preferably black, white, blue, or gray. Bright, flashy, neon, or light up sneakers are not permitted.
Gym Uniform
During the colder months students must wear the sweatpants for gym days. Stunts should also wear the gray gym shirt with the logo on gym days. Should they choose to wear the gray sweatshirt, the official tee shirt should be work underneath.
The tie dyed spirit wear shirt is not acceptable for gym days. Only the pink breast cancer shirt may be worn as an alternative to the official gray tee shirt.
Spirit Wear
Spirit wear can be ONLY worn to school with an official dress down pass or on designated Spirit Wear Days.

Virtus Registration and Training
All Adult volunteers must be Virtus Trained
To register with Virtus and be eligible to volunteer, coach, or chaperone in school or at a school sponsored event you must register with Virtus, complete a training and agree to a background check.
