NYCOMEC and NYIT have initiated a new lecture series designed to develop and enhance leadership skills among healthcare administrators, physicians, and management staff at our member institutions. The Healthcare Leadership Certificate Course begins on January 27, 2017 and comprises a series of ten interactive lectures. Presentations take place every other month, alternating sites between Jamaica Hospital Medical Center and Flushing Hospital Medical Center. AAFP CME credit is also provided by Jamaica Hospital Medical Center.

On Thursday, January 19, 2017, NYCOMEC leaders
gathered at Jacksons Bistro & Sushi Restaurant in Tampa, Florida for the NYCOMEC Hospitality Reception. The event was held in conjunction with the AOA's annual Osteopathic Medical Educators and Leaders Conference, which was held at the Waterside Hotel in Tampa, Florida from January 19-21, 2017.

New Report on Innovations in Graduate Medical Education
The Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation, a national foundation dedicated to improving the training of medical professionals, released a report entitled
Innovations in
Graduate Medical Education
. The focus of this report was to discover what different regions were doing to train their residents and fellows for a rapidly changing health care industry. Six conferences were held throughout the United States, drawing together more than 800 professionals from 39 states, including medical schools and the ACGME. Leadership Skills Training Programs for Residents
ACGME Leadership Skills Training Programs for Chief Residents:
This ACGME-sponsored program is designed to introduce the essential skills required for rising and current chief residents to develop enhanced self-awareness and learn leadership concepts that increase individual effectiveness in a leadership role. AOA Training in Policy Studies (TIPS)
The TIPS program offers residents training in health policy to better understand, and be involved in impacting, the policy changes that will affect their patients' health care and wellbeing. The program is open to all osteopathic physicians who have completed one year of postgraduate training and remain in an active AOA- or ACGME-accredited training program. The AOA will begin accepting applications in June 2017 and will choose program participants by late August 2017. Learn

Single GME Update for Program Directors and DMEs
Programs that are four years in length or longer were required to submit an application to the ACGME by Jan. 1, 2017, in order to be able to accept students in the 2017 Match. Dr Buser, AOA President, announced that 80% of four-year-plus programs have achieved accreditation or pre-accreditation and are eligible to participate in the Match. The Opportunities database is updated daily to include all programs participating in this year's Match, as well as those that are not eligible or have voluntarily withdrawn from the Match. Each program listing includes the program's current ACGME accreditation and osteopathic recognition status. Read

The Single GME Accreditation System & 2017 Residency Match Webinar
On Friday, January 13, 2017, AACOM hosted an informational webinar for students and faculty advisors on the single graduate medical education (GME) accreditation system (SAS) and with a focus on the residency match process. This webinar is particularly useful for fourth-year osteopathic medical students who are navigating the 2017 residency match.
