California Sends Trump Unequivocal
"This Land is Made For You and Me" Message

CHIRLA applauds Governor Brown's message that immigrant families are a state priority.  Attorney Becerra's confirmation is integral to that message.
Los Angeles, CA -- The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), the largest immigrant rights organization in California, applauded Governor Brown's message today indicating immigrants are one of the state's priorities.   The confirmation Tuesday of former Congressman Xavier Becerra as California's first Latino Attorney General is part of a strong message the Golden State is sending Washington, DC.

The following are statements for Angelica Salas, executive director for CHIRLA.

"In contrast to President Trump's unraveling of environmental and patient protections during the first two days of his Administration, California Governor Jerry Brown is making very clear it will protect and defend immigrants and access to health care.

Governor Brown's  state of the state address sends an unequivocal message to Washington, DC that this land is your land as well.  Lest anyone has forgotten, Governor Brown reminded us all we have a long history of welcoming immigrants.

In a sign that California means what it says, the first Attorney General of Latino descent was sworn in today.

CHIRLA applauds Governor Brown's remarks and looks forward to working with Attorney General Becerra as we continue to lead the nation in the protection and integration of immigrant families and ensuring access to health care for all its citizens."
