Checking Out South Fork In February

A walk along South Fork of Cave Creek is breathtaking no matter what time of year.  The soaring red cliffs stand out against the crystal clear and bright blue skies.  Once the sycamores have leafed out,  most of the nest bird species will have arrived or will very soon.

This is one of the very best bird walks in all of the United States.  Additionally, this area has the highest raptor count in the entire country.

In February, the mornings can be quite cool.  Late mornings can provide some good birding.  Sometimes you get a great treat like Lori and Mark who wrote: " On our hike up the South Fork road this morning, we had a small flock of birds that contained 3 Olive Warblers (one a male!) & a Grace's Warbler. Also about 6-8 Western Bluebirds."

In March we received a $15,000 grant from First Solar to rejuvenate Willow Tank, to make it back into the great birding place of before.  First Solar also donated AND delivered all the solar panels.  These panels are the new cutting edge technology panels that are more valuable than standard panels.  Thank you, First Solar for your generosity and support.
