The NFF is hosting the annual winter meeting of Division I conference coordinators for football officials for the fifth consecutive year at NFF headquarters in Irving, Texas. The meeting, held today and tomorrow, is being led by Mid-American Conference Commissioner Dr. Jon Steinbrecher, the chairman of the College Football Officiating (CFO) Board of Managers, and Rogers Redding, the CFO National Coordinator. The officiating coordinators from all 23 NCAA Division I conferences, covering both the FBS and the FCS, are participating in the meeting.

NFF National Scholar-Athletes Among NFL Pro Bowlers
Three former NFF National Scholar-Athletes were named to this year's NFL Pro Bowl, which will be played this Sunday, Jan. 29, at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla. The game will kick off at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Atlanta Falcons center Alex Mack, the 2008 William V. Campbell Trophy recipient while at California, received his fourth Pro Bowl selection. He will not play in the game as he prepares for Super Bowl LI.

Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, an NFF National Scholar-Athlete in 2013 while at Fresno State, was named to his second consecutive Pro Bowl, but will miss the game due to an injury.

Cleveland Browns offensive tackle Joe Thomas, a 2006 NFF National Scholar-Athlete at Wisconsin, has been selected to his 10th consecutive Pro Bowl in 10 NFL seasons. The mark sets a Browns franchise record and represents the longest active streak in the NFL. 
Feb. 1 - National Signing Day: Watch some of high school's brightest football stars announce their college choice at National Signing Day! The Hall is partnering with the Touchdown Club of Atlanta-NFF Chapter, 680 the Fan and Fox 5 for an on-field event where fans can watch the top recruits select their new schools. February - Black History Month: Celebrate the history of college football with a special temporary exhibit telling the story of southern African-American football players that played at Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the Specialty Exhibit delivered by UPS. The exhibit will open on Feb. 1.

NFF Board Member Charlie Anderson and 2017 College Football Hall of Fame electee and 1997 Campbell Trophy winner Peyton Manning are part of the six-person search committee for Tennessee's athletics director.

NFF Board Member and IMG College Chairman Emeritus Ben Sutton has been elected to the State of North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame. He will be inducted May 5 at the Raleigh Convention Center.

2017 College Football Hall of Fame electee Adrian Peterson (Georgia Southern) will be the guest speaker at the annual Chamber Banquet and Salute to Business and Industry on Jan. 26 at the Evans County Wildlife Club in Hagan, Ga.

College Football Hall of Famer Dre Bly (North Carolina) was elected to the State of Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.

2003 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Eli Manning (Ole Miss) joins  Larry Fitzgerald (Pittsburgh) and Greg Olsen (Miami [Fla.]) as the three finalists for Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, presented by Nationwide.

2016 Campbell Trophy winner  Zach Terrell  (Western Michigan) and 2016 NFF National Scholar-Athletes Brooks Ellis (Arkansas), Cooper Rush (Central Michigan) and Karter Schult (Northern Iowa) participated i n the   East-West Shrine Game on Jan. 21 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Air Force safety Weston Steelhammer, a 2013 NFF National High School Scholar-Athlete, was named the recipient of the East-West Shrine Game Pat Tillman Award. The award is presented to the player who best exemplifies character, intelligence, sportsmanship and service. The award is about a student-athlete's achievements and conduct, both on and off the field.

2016 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Zay Jones (East Carolina) will play in the 2017 Reese's Senior Bowl Jan. 28 in Mobile, Ala. The game will kick off at 2:30 p.m. ET and air on the NFL Network.


NFF Program Updates

The NFF Scholar-Athlete of the Day, presented by Fidelity Investments, is a daily segment honoring the semifinalists for the 2016  William V. Campbell Trophy, presented by Fidelity Investments. Today's honoree is Wisconsin linebacker  Vince Biegel, who graduated in December 2016 with a  3.21 GPA in life sciences communication.
Over The Middle
The Touchdown Club of Atlanta-NFF Chapter will hold its Annual Awards Banquet on Jan. 26 at the Northlake DoubleTree in Atlanta. The chapter honors the best high school football athletes and coaches in the Metro Atlanta area, the State of Georgia and the top Lineman & Back in the entire nation. The chapter also partners with the Nike Coach of the Year Clinic, which is held concurrently with the banquet. Click here for more information.

The NFF Westchester (N.Y.) Chapter will host its Golden Dozen Banquet on Jan. 26 at the Westchester Country Club in Rye, N.Y. 

The Arlington (Texas) Independent School District will hold a dedication and open house for Eddy & Debbie Peach Elementary School on Jan. 28. The school is named in honor of former Arlington Lamar High School football coach Eddy Peach , and his wife,  Debbie . Coach Peach received the NFF Gridiron Club of Dallas Chapter 's Legends Award in 2016.

The NFF Central New York Chapter will hold its Scholar-Athlete Banquet on Jan. 29 at Turning Stone Resort in Verona, N.Y.

The NFF Touchdown Club of Houston Chapter will honor Greater Houston Area and South Texas High School football alumni who have participated in past Super Bowls as a player, coach or official. The event will be held at the Houston Marriott South at Hobby Airport, on Monday Jan. 30, with doors opening at 11:30 a.m. The luncheon will feature a question and answer forum moderated by former NFL quarterback and current Yahoo Sports personality Sean Salisbury. College Football Hall of Famers Donny Anderson (Texas Tech), Dave Elmendorf (Texas A&M) and Joe Washington (Oklahoma) are among those anticipated to attend.

The NFF Valley of the Sun (Ariz.) Chapter will host its Fifth Annual College Signing Day event on Feb. 1 at Majerle's Sports Grill Desert Ridge in Phoenix. Learn more at www.aznff.com.

The NFF Tom Lombardo/St. Louis Chapter will host a Recruiting Breakfast on Feb. 1 at Norwood Country Club in St. Louis, Mo.

North Carolina at Pembroke senior place-kicker Matt Davis was selected as the recipient of the 2016 Fred Mitchell Award, which is presented to the nation's top place-kicker in FCS, Division II, Division III, NAIA or NJCAA for excellence on the football field and in the community. He will be honored at Halas Hall on Feb. 20 at the NFF Chicago Metro Chapter's annual Awards Ceremony. 

The NFF Greater Cincinnati  Chapter's scholar-athlete banquet will be held Feb. 28 at The Renaissance Cincinnati Downtown. The banquet will honor 2017 College Football Hall of Fame electee Bob Crable (Notre Dame) and will feature Cincinnati's new head football coach Luke Fickell. The Anthony Muñoz Foundation's Offensive and Defensive Linemen of the Year will be honored by Anthony Muñoz, a former USC offensive tackle and member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Since 1959, the National Football Foundation has annually recognized the best and brightest college players, presenting them with prestigious NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards, presented by Fidelity Investments. The $18,000 postgraduate scholarships are presented at the NFF Annual Awards Dinner in New York City. 

Launched in 2008, the NFF Scholar-Athlete Alumni Association provides a powerful vehicle for past honorees to remain in the vanguard of the NFF's present efforts.
