Dear Colleagues:

Emma Gibson has been appointed the Interim Dean for the University Library,
effe ctive Monday, December 4, 2017. Ms. Gibson joined the library as a reference librarian in April 1989. She hasserved as the Head of Reference and Instruction Services, Head of Public Services and the Chair of the Library. Prior to coming to Cal Poly Pomona, Emma served as the Director of Libraries at West Cost University. Her commitment has been and continues to be working with students, faculty, and staff to ensure successful progress to   ward graduation, lifelong learning, informed citizenship, and professional success.

Emma views community building and forming partnerships around strategic objectives important goals for the library. This has led to her varied involvements on campus. She participated in the Academic Senate as a senator and served as a member of the Academic Senate Executive Committee from 2002-2005 and 2008-2011. She served as the president of the Cal Poly Pomona chapter of California Faculty Associatio n from 2004-2006. Her campus participation includes being the faculty advisor for the following students groups: National Society for Black Engineers, Alpha Lambda Delta (a honor society for first-year students) of which she is one of the founders of a Cal Poly Pomona chapter, and the Library Club, which she established in collaboration with students.
 
In 2005, she was the recipient of the George P. Hart Award for Outstanding Faculty Leadership. She was elected a National Education Association representative to its national conference and was selected to attend the Emerging Leaders Academy training program.
 
Emma earned her bachelor's degree in education from the University of Cincinnati, an MBA with an option in finance and management from West Coast University, a master's degree in Library Science from the University of Kentucky, and currently she's completing her dissertation for a doctorate in Educational Leadership at Cal Poly Pomona.
