The Knox Presbyterian Church pipe organ, seen but not heard as the backdrop for recent Stratford Symphony Orchestra concerts, will be front and centre on Saturday, Nov. 14, as the SSO presents "Organ Fantasy," its second concert of the season and its first presentation of a major organ work.

Andrew Adair, performing Francis Poulenc's
Organ Concerto.Mr. Adair has been director of music and organist at Toronto's historic Church of St. Mary Magdalene since 2013.
The Knox organ was built 100 years ago by a Woodstock firm and rebuilt in 1990 by Casavant
Frères, an internationally renowned firm based in Quebec.
The SSO strings will be featured in other concert selections, which include Pyotr Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings, Edvard Grieg's Holberg Suite and Jean Sibelius's Andante Festivo.
William Rowson, in his first season as SSO principal conductor, will lead the orchestra.
Knox Presbyterian Church is at Ontario and Waterloo streets. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are available at Fanfare Books, Blowes Stationery (downtown), Festival Mall kiosk and Lyric Flowers (St. Marys), as well as on the SSO website. Tickets are $40 for adults and $10 for students (with a valid ID). Children under 12 are admitted free.

Barbara Young to lead Music & Opera
Barbara Steed Young, Emeritus Co-Music Director of the SSO, has taken on the artistic leadership of the Music & Opera Appreciation Inc. beginning with Amahl & the Night Visitors (DVD) Jan. 12. www.musicandopera.weebly.com
As well, Barbara has recently been appointed to the Dean's Advisory Council, Don Wright Faculty of Music, University of Western Ontario.
