Assembling the pieces for upcoming Senate session

Now that we are past the recent election and its constant activity, I find that the time-vacuum has been filled with preparations for the beginning of the legislative session Jan. 11.

I am happy to announce that I will serve on two important committees - education and transportation - when the Colorado Senate begins its work. As you know, I made education a top priority during the campaign, and this new committee assignment is a perfect vehicle for my efforts. We also had numerous conversations during the campaign about transportation issues, and I am eager to start addressing some of them from my seat in that committee.

I have also been appointed to serve on the School Safety and Youth in Crisis Committee, and you will be hearing much about my activities in that arena as the weeks and months unfold.
Visit me in new/old office

I have moved into my office at the Capitol, Room 339. It might look familiar to those of you who visited me when I was in session in 2014. It's the same room! I hope if you find yourself at the Capitol during a workday, you'll stop in to say hello. If I'm not there, my staff will know how to reach me. And speaking of contacting me, I'll be using the same email address that I did two years ago: SenatorRachelZ@gmail.com . Of course, the address at the Capitol is 200 E. Colfax Ave. in Denver.

Open house celebration

We will have an Open House to celebrate the start of the session Jan. 11, just before the 10 a.m. opening ceremonies. I hope you will have a chance to stop in to say hello around 9 a.m., then maybe watch the opening ceremonies from the balcony. You can check regularly on Facebook for more information about the Open House. Facebook is a great way to receive information about what's going on with my activities in the Senate.
My five-bill limit in Senate

I am gathering information about possible legislation that I might present for consideration in the Senate (we have a five-bill limit), and I have settled on bills relating to the following issues: attainable housing, economic development, education and transportation. Follow my Facebook page or check occasionally on my website for updates on the details.

Tracking your Senator

I had the privilege of participating on the Metro North Chamber's legislative breakfast on Dec. 9 ... also attended two straight days of orientation at the State Capitol, designed for all new (and kind of new) legislators ... I attended the City of Westminster legislative dinner on Dec. 15, where we received an update on the new downtown center, transportation issues, sales and use tax, etc. ...

If there is an event that you think I should attend, please notify me!

An expensive campaign

It turns out, the recently concluded campaign for the District 19 seat was even more expensive than we ever imagined, and certainly one of the most expensive in the state. See the final numbers here
Thanks to everybody who donated to the campaign. As you can see, every dollar counted, and we couldn't have done it without you. By the way, the high finance of political campaigns is a reality we can't deny, and the fundraising will be ongoing in anticipation of the next campaign.
Donations

Every important political campaign these days requires significant funding, and this one is no exception. We need to find a way to pay for brochures, direct mail pieces, advertisements and other tools to help make voters aware of their choices. Please consider making any level of contribution to the "Rachel Zenzinger for Colorado" campaign, and help me get elected this coming November.
