THE BOTANIC GARDENer -
March 2017
Deadline:  31 January

THE BOTANIC GARDENer seeks:

  • feature articles on the theme -
  • venue hire and what contracts etc do you have in place to minimise financial risk, damage to collections etc.
  • a book review relevant to members
  • and any news items
Our Feature Interview, Managing Risk, is not to be missed. Janelle talks to Corrie Pitzer, CEO SafeMap. Corrie is a leader in risk management in the world's most dangerous professions such as mining, power-generating and aerospace industries.

Corrie contests that an entrenched safety culture is killing innovation. He demystifies human error and shows how accidents are the normal reaction of normal people to random circumstances which are impossible to predict. He explains how organisations are now developing risk-focused cultures to cope with our world of constant turbulence and disruption.

We'd love to hear from our Botanic Gardens community:
  • Has your garden developed innovative approaches to managing risk?
  • Does your organisation have an effective safety culture?
  • What have you learnt from a significant risk event?
  • How is your garden providing opportunities for 'free play' for children?
  • What makes your garden outstanding in the field?
  • Is safety killing your business?
Share your innovations, aspirations or frustrations with your colleagues.

observation... The experience shouldn't be diminished by an avoidance of risk. If you really want people to be able to go out there and fully experience your environment then you need to 'sell risk safely'.
