Wreath Candle Lighters for Advent
Families and individuals interested in
lighting Advent candles at the
beginning of services
Saturday (5:30) and
Sunday (8:30 & 10:45) in Advent,
should contact Deacon Peg.

Wait, what?
Sundays at 4pm, through, December 17.
God waits for us,
throughout our lives, inviting our expectations to be shaped and transformed by a perfect love that promises healing and hope. Join this small-group series with Mother Sarah, for any and all sessions, as we explore ways to embrace sacred waiting in Advent.

Gratefully: Special thanks to the Whipple family and Susan & Jack Stallings for hosting our community dinner and to Tim & Peg Flynn and Joy Marlin for chauffeuring and chaperoning our youth group outing to "Illuminations" at Botanica this past Wednesday!

Spirit, Let's Hear It! Mary's soul proclaimed God's greatness, not her own. During our final 2017 Thursday morning Bible Study gathering on Dec. 21, we will explore the Spirit's prophetic work in Mary's life and consider how we, too, are called to proclaim God's goodness and love in this world. All are welcome.

Gifts for our Christmas Adopted Families are due Sunday (December 10) or as soon as you can bring them to the church, next week.
The Giving Tree still has a few tags. Please consider choosing one or two; then be sure to sign the clipboard.
If you have signed the clipboard and your tag is lost, we can easily identify your recipient.
Remember: when several items are suggested or requested, choose one or two. You are NOT expected to purchase the whole list! Gift cards are always useful. Choose a store where the recipient will get the most for his/her money.
BE SURE TO ATTACH THE COLORED PART OF THE TAG (tree, bell or ornament shape, with the recipient's name) to the package.
Tags are color coded by family, and shape coded by agency (ESS or KCSL).
Please gift-wrap your package . If your present is a gift card, please put it in an envelope (or a small box) with the person's name on the envelope AND the name tag attached.
More than one package for someone? Please write the person's name on EACH package.
These families are truly grateful for your generosity. Thank you for making Christmas possible for them!
DELIVERING THE FOOD BASKETS & GIFTS MAKES CHRISTMAS EXTRA SPECIAL
If you are available for an hour or two after the 10:45 a.m. service on December 17, we need your help!

If you have not already mailed in your pledge to the church or turned in your stewardship commitment on In Gathering Sunday, it is not too late!  Please let us know the amount of your financial commitment as soon as possible, as the Vestry is beginning to plan the budget for the 2017-18 church year, and we need to know the amount of the gifts that you are planning to give to St. James.

Please take this important step as a member of our beloved parish and give generously to help maintain and grow the church and church family that we all love.  Please look for the new Stewardship envelopes in the pews with the "Love and Be Loved" theme on the outside.  We hope you will use these envelopes on a regular basis to place your gifts into the offering plate each Sunday, or as often as you feel moved to give to St. James.

Thank you for your generosity; St. James is truly blessed by your gifts.

Word for the Week ~ Imitate Jesus
Perhaps at this moment you cannot see or perceive how God is working in your life, how God is present with you amidst the world's bewildering confusion and suffering. If so, take Jesus at his word: We will come to know God's presence with us by following the example of Jesus: by teaching and healing, listening to our neighbors, both known and unknown to us; by doing acts of love and mercy even in the face of those who wish us ill.
