Dear Parents,
 
Although Chinese New Year is officially January 28th , we like to celebrate much longer here at St. Therese and in Chinatown. Mark your calendars for Sunday, February 5th to enjoy a full day of engagement and wonder . Our  Lunar New Year Mass begins at 9:30 am and is followed by the Chinatown Parade, which starts at 1:00 pm, celebrating the  Year of the Rooster ! We hope that our families join us for as much of the day as possible. It is always an absolutely beautiful experience.  Finally, also p lease reserve Saturday, March 4th for our school's Chinese New Year Annual Dinner Benefit at Furama! This is a great evening to enjoy time together as a school community, celebrate our hard work, and experience the many talents of our students. Our children's talent and passion always mesmerizes me.

Catholic Schools Week  starts Sunday !
Our Bishop will celebrate mass at St. Therese Church
on  Tuesday, January 31 at 8:00 am
to help kick off 
this festive week,
followed   by a week's worth of activities celebrating our students' learning! 
Parents are highly encouraged to join us for the Curriculum Fair, Scholastic Book Fair, Science Fair, Zaner-Bloser Handwriting Contest (print & cursive), Spelling Bee,   and Geography Bee.
All local contests are affiliated with city, state and national organizations. School winners will advance in their respective contests.
 The Student Council also has some fun spirit days mixed in there with Fandom Dress, Wacky Wednesday, etc. Be sure to join in ! The full schedule of next week's events is provided later in this email.

Curriculum Fair , which coincides with our  Scholastic Book Fair . A HUGE thank you to co-presidents,  Elisa Moy and Anita Mark and the parents of the  School and Family Association
who helped bring back such a wonderful event to STCCS!

Cameron Moy, Cardinal Cupich and Sofia Mark at City Hall
Cardinal Cupich Honored by the Chicago City Council

Cameron Moy, Sofia Mark, and Ms. Cavallone were invited by Mayor Emmanuel's office to attend the City Council Meeting on January 25th where Cardinal Blase Cupich was honored for his recent elevation to Cardinal. An Honorary Resolution was adopted in the City Council Chambers with a reception following.

"We were so thrilled to be part of this incredible experience!" said Ms. Cavallone of the event. "We cannot thank our Mayor enough for welcoming and honoring our Cardinal with such grace. After many aldermen took a moment to thank the Cardinal and the Catholic church for their incredible works in the city, Cardinal Cupich spoke to the City Council on the power of all of us working together to be instruments of peace in our city. It was very moving."

Third Grader Students Write
"Dear Pope Francis" Letters

After reading  Dear Pope Francis,  a delightful book published by Loyola Press, our 3rd grade students composed their own letters to Pope Francis. 

In their letters, students shared stories about their lives and took the opportunity to ask questions of the Pope . 

We are very proud of how well our children integrated their lived experience in their writing.  We hope Pope Francis enjoys your letters as much as we did!

Good News Spotlight*

Two St. Therese students, Selena and Silvanna Fang, competed in this year's Chicago Park District Silver Skate Speed Skating Competition on Saturday, January 21.

Both skaters qualified for the finals competition at a meet the week before. Selena qualified with a medal prize for the 400 meter race and Silvana earned a place in the competition with a gold medal for the 100 meter race. At the Silver Skate Finals Competition, Selena came in third place for the 400 meter race and  Silvana came in second place for the 100 meter race. Congrats to our student athletes!

Help Make Our Chinese New Year Benefit a Success!

We are busy putting together another fantastic Chinese New Year event to share with everyone on March 4th. Parents have received packets for the benefit that includes everything you need to know. Please take a moment to review these materials and consider all the ways you can participate in this important fundraising event. You can also find all of this information on the CNY Page on the website including the letter in both English and Chinese!

Note that Friday, February 13th is the deadline for submitting any of the forms in your CNY packet. Please purchase your event tickets and submit any auction donation forms in as soon as possible so that we may be sure to include all donations in our program booklet.

We are also asking parents to invite family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc. to become involved in our CNY event by forward this email or encouraging them to visit our school website. The following links available online and are provided below:

    Have You Noticed Our New Look?
    St. Therese School has  a new logo and other graphic elements to help us continue to elevate our brand presence and in preparation for a new website being developed for next school year. We hope you like it!

    In the meantime, we are beginning to use our new logo and other graphic elements on our website and in our print and electronic communications.  Our new look is the result of much staff work with a marketing consulting company and input from parents since this past Fall. Thank you to all who helped with this exciting project!
