Registrar's Office releases fall commencement instructions and reminders for all graduates
Congratulations to the fall graduates of the Polytechnic Campus! You are almost a K-State alumnus; but first, here are a few instructions and reminders for your big day - Friday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. in the SLC.
- Commencement rehearsal: If you plan on walking in the graduation ceremony, please meet in the Student Life Center at 1 p.m. on Friday for rehearsal. We will review deadlines for degree conferring and individual degree applications, lining up for the ceremony, and any additional questions you may have.
- Commencement arrival time: Graduates should arrive on campus no later than 6:15 p.m. on Dec. 8 with your cap, gown and tassel. The student meeting location is in the Student Life Center on the upper track. When you arrive, there will be a table with your reader card - the only way to know you have arrived is if you have your card.
- Late orders of cap/gown/tassel: If you have not yet ordered your cap, gown or tassel for graduation, there is still time because the company is located in Manhattan and has quick turnaround times on shipments. Go to http://www.cbgrad.com for details. The tassel color for the College of Technology and Aviation is black, the College of Arts and Sciences (social work) is bright gold and the College of Human Ecology (FSHS/PFP) is maroon.
- Official transcripts: If you have not ordered official transcripts for when your degree is posted, do so before the end of finals week. The last day to order transcripts at no charge is Dec. 29. After that date, they are $15 each. When you order your transcript(s), there is an option to select "Hold for Degree." These will be processed mid-January when degrees are posted.
- Online viewing options: If you have family that is unable to attend commencement, share this link that offers a live feed of the ceremony with them: http://www.k-state.edu/graduation/fall2017/tech-aviation.html. Also, K-State Polytechnic's social media pages - Facebook, Twitter and Instagram - will cover the ceremony with fun photos and videos.
- Snapchat: A special Snapchat filter has been created for the Polytechnic Campus' commencement ceremony. It is only available from 6 to 9 p.m. on Dec. 8 in the College Center and the SLC, so be sure to snap a lot of photos and share them across your social media platforms using the hashtag #KStateGraduation.

K-State Veteran Center asking for bedding donations for newly returned soldiers
Help a soldier feel the comforts of home this holiday season with a bedding donation.
The K-State Veteran Center is collecting complete sets of sheets - a fitted and flat sheet - a pillow case, and pillow for about 50 soldiers returning to Fort Riley after being deployed in the Middle East.
If you are able to contribute, please bring the bedding and pillow to the
K-State Polytechnic SGA office, College Center 112, by Friday, Dec. 8. Julie Rowe will make sure the donations get to the Veteran Center in Manhattan.

Library offering Harry Potter night during Stress Free Week
Calling all Muggles and Wizards!
The K-State Polytechnic Library is contributing to Stress Free Week with a Harry Potter-themed event to help give students a break from studying for finals. From 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5, the library is hosting a variety of activities that honor the famous sci-fi series, including being sorted into your own Hogwarts house and creating a wand. Snacks and drinks also will be provided.
Later that evening, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., there will be a competitive
Harry Potter-themed scavenger hunt. The first team to follow the clues and successfully complete the hunt will be given a prize.
Faculty and staff are invited to participate alongside students.

K-State Polytechnic alums, faculty featured in Salina Journal for 'Whizzbang' invention
 The Salina Journal is featuring in a new article the creativity of three men that the Polytechnic Campus knows very well.
Shaun Kibbe, a 2008 graduate, Neil Ward, a part-time instructor, and Dustin Keiswetter, a 2009 alum and
engineering technician in the MET lab, joined forces for an inventor's competition and now their successful idea is being highlighted in the paper. The group entered a contest called "Make48" last year and created the Whizzbang, a toilet lid-mounted gadget that uses a laser light target and celebratory sound to solve the age-old problem of poor aim.
"Make48" was also filmed as a television show and
airs at 10 p.m. Tuesdays on public television KPTS.

Social work students make Salina Journal front page with Keeping Salina Warm event
From tents and cardboard boxes to a soup kitchen and coat drive, the Keeping Salina Warm event on campus Dec. 1 was such an interesting and impactful idea that the Salina Journal made it their front page story.
Hosted by social work seniors in the Macro Practice and Theory class, Keeping Salina Warm aimed to raise awareness about local homelessness while gathering winter weather clothing items for three nonprofit organizations.
After only a half hour into the event, the social work students had collected their goal of 100 coats. And at the end of the night, they estimated about $2,000 worth of donations had been given.

Tammy Trepoy, Katrina Ramirez, Stacy Crumble, Gina Nelson-Fishel, Maritza Rodriguez, Lexi Gasper, Hali Norris and instructor Cheryl Calhoun on the event's success.

It was another successful year for Candy Canes and Airplanes, and those who participated in the organization and execution of the event deserve a big high-five!
Thank you for once again creating an opportunity for the Polytechnic Campus to engage with the community.
When we offer an event or program to those outside of the campus, we have the ability to connect people with our programs and bring awareness to the talents of our students. In this particular case, youth from Salina and several nearby towns got to experience the joy of the holiday season while being exposed to our aviation degree options and student clubs. It's a great combination.
Congratulations to the faculty, staff and students who worked very hard to make Candy Canes and Airplanes a fun and educational time.

Employee Tuition Assistance and Spouse/Dependent Grant
1. Employee Tuition Assistance
Award amount is for tuition only in a K-State course for up to 3 credit hours per term.
The maximum award amount will not exceed the value of 3 hours at the in-state Manhattan/Salina tuition rate (ie. campus fees, other institutional fees, etc. are the responsibility of the employee).

Spouse/Dependent Grants (Only REGULAR employees are eligible. If you are unsure if you are REGULAR or TERM, check your contract or with the HR office.)
For Dependents or Spouses that are enrolled full time in a degree terminating undergraduate program, the award will be the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 7 undergraduate course credits, where full-time for an undergraduate is defined as at least 12 enrolled credit hours per regular fall/spring term.
For Spouses that are enrolled part-time in a degree terminating undergraduate program the maximum award will be the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 3 undergraduate course credits, where part-time for an undergraduate is defined as less than 12 enrolled credit hours per regular fall/spring term. (Enrollment of less than 3 credit hours, will result in the proration of the award i.e. 2 credit hours enrolled = the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 2 credit hours - or - 1 credit hour enrolled = the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 1 credit hour. )
Dependents that are enrolled less than full-time in an undergraduate program are not eligible for the K-State Dependent/Spouse Grant.
For Dependents or Spouses that are enrolled in a degree terminating graduate or veterinary medicine program the maximum award will be the equivalent of the regular, resident on-campus tuition rate for 3 course credit hours as indicated by the student's degree program, graduate or veterinary medicine.
