From Mrs. Rowley

Greetings from the Eternal City, Rome.  I am having a wonderful time with my family. Today we visited St. Peter's Basilica and I said a prayer for you all while I was there.  God bless, and I will see you next week.

A Knight Around the World Gala

We are already off to a great start with our Gala ticket sales. Tickets are now being sold for $50 each.  We just found out that the credit card fee will not apply to ticket purchases so we encourage people to purchase directly online at

Just to tantalize your taste buds, we'll give you a little sneak peak of some of our food offerings.  Look forward to enjoying a taste from Nando's Peri Peri, Cava Mezze Grill, Banyan Tree Grill, and Spice 6.  These are businesses that have donated to our school so please patron their restaurants and show your support.  Stay tuned for information on more great food offerings!

Each student should have received 10 tickets each to sell for the 50/50 raffle.  The student who sells the most tickets will win 2 tickets to Six Flags.  We've already had students turning in their sold tickets! You can request additional tickets by emailing [email protected].  Please return any unsold tickets to the school office in care of Rachel Kramer.

Please share your delicious treats by donating to the dessert auction.  Send in your submission to the school office or [email protected].

Calling all bidders! Each week, starting Monday 2/27, we will put a class basket out for display on the table in the school entrance. The baskets are so beautiful, why not show them off?! We will start with Kindergarten's Lego basket which is filled to the brim with all sorts of Lego kits, books, and free build sets. So, take a look and start preparing your bids!!!

Club Updates
Updates from STEM Club

Our Wednesday STEM Club started their bridge building engineering design challenge. We first discussed the six main types of bridges, namely truss, beam, cantilever, arch, suspension and cable-stay. We then focused in on the truss design (we love triangles!) and examined different truss bridges.

Our 2 nd -4 th grade teams were then given geometry and material constraints of using a maximum of 200 popsicle sticks and craft glue, having the bridge span 16 inches, and also incorporating a truss bridge design found on their handout. The load for the bridge is that it must hold 5 pounds. The bridges must also have an aesthetic component.

Our 5 th -7 th grade teams were given the difficult building material of a box of spaghetti instead of popsicle sticks. Their design load was also given as 5 pounds, but they were challenged to design with a max load of twenty pounds.

All the teams went to work right away. We will hopefully finish the project this week.

Our K-1 st STEM Club on Thursday discussed the reason for no school on Monday: President's Day and also George Washington's birthday. We read a book aptly named "George Washington's Birthday: A Mostly True Tale" by Margaret McNamara. It's a great book all about the day of George's 7 th birthday. We then learned about the Washington monument in DC. Finally, we handed out the engineering design challenge for the day: to build our own Washington monument and have it hold a quarter, which is twenty five cents, and also has the profile of whom else, but George Washington!

Since this is STEM Club, we couldn't build our monuments out of blocks or Legos; that would be too sensible. Our challenge involved lasagna noodles and playdough!

Well done everyone!
