ACA vigil "With malice toward none...;

...with charity for all...to bind up the nation's wounds...to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves, and with all nations." Words from the last paragraph of the second inaugural of one of our greatest Presidents, Abraham Lincoln. Words we would hope to hear from our current president, but from which were sadly disappointed. A sentiment we would hope he would follow in action to lead our nation in these difficult times.

It is our duty as Social Workers to speak for the voiceless, the dispirited, the rejected, the troubled, and we must raise our voices in chorus in their defense.

And we would hope our own Governor, a man who professes love for the law would join that chorus when just 13 months ago, he called any Muslim ban "ridiculous...the kind of thing people say when they have no experience and don't know what they are talking about." Yet he refused to disagree with the ban, simply saying it was "done inartfully and ineffectively..." For this and other reasons, it is obvious why he deservedly has only a 17% approval rating from the citizens of our state.

Join the chorus, join the vigils to save our health care, as our own Associate Executive Director Mary Jean Weston did last night. Go the web page of our partner in the NJ for Healthcare Coalition, and offer to come to the next vigil . Write your congressional representatives, talk to your friends and co-workers to get them engaged.

Join the chorus -
We sing for the America we know and love.

Social Work Month is March 2017 Social Workers Stand Up!
Social Workers Stand Up
NASW will launch a "Social Workers Stand Up" campaign during Social Work Month in March 2017. The campaign will focus on educating the public about how social workers stand up for others, including some of the most vulnerable people in our society, and make positive contributions to society. The campaign will also highlight the importance of the social work title, and why getting the assistance of an educated and licensed social worker is so important. Look for more details about the campaign to be posted here.
Ready to Run™ Campaign Training for Women
Ready to Run NASW-NJ is pleased to be among the co-sponsors of Ready to Run™ New Jersey on March 10-11, 2017.

Ready to Run™ is a non-partisan campaign training program to encourage women to run for elective office, position themselves for appointed office, work on a campaign, or get involved in public life in other ways.

NASW-NJ will cover the cost of NASW-NJ members who want to attend the 2017 Ready to Run™ program. Register online and select the "pay by check" option. For the "how did you hear?" question, write NASW-NJ.

Ready to Run™ programs will be held at Douglass Campus Center, 100 George Street, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, New Brunswick, NJ. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity.
