Dear Library Community,

February is African American History Month and Fairview Historian, Patt Mazzeo, created a special display celebrating the life of Fairview resident, Simon Douglas.  Born a slave in 1842, Douglas came north with Sherman's army in 1864 and settled in Fairview in 1866. He operated a blacksmith shop out of his home until 1939 and died at the age of 108 in 1950. Make sure to visit the library this month to learn more about Simon Douglas's life.
