This municipal policy-focused webinar features an all-star panel discussing trends that affect local governments throughout the Chicago region and exploring their outlook for 2017. With Illinois' unemployment rate falling and bullish financial markets - and a new administration on Capitol Hill - it is an opportune time to reassess the outlook for Illinois communities.

Topics of discussion will include:
  • Trends regarding capital improvement spending, general fund balances, and employment levels in 109 municipalities throughout the Chicago region;
  • Revenues, employment rates, and other metrics since the Great Recession;
  • How local governments throughout Illinois can expand their "financial toolbox" to capture sufficient revenues to sustain infrastructure reinvestment.
Webinar Agenda
Chris Brewer, Vice President of Economics at AECOM, will share findings from his analysis of community performance throughout metropolitan Chicago as part of a recently published article in the Illinois Municipal Policy Journal  titled Fiscal Recovery after the Great Recession: Reviewing the Performance of Metropolitan Chicago Communities. See also, a companion article on  commercial real estate development.
Discussants Joe Schwieterman and C. Scott Smith, director and associate director of the Chaddick Institute, respectively, will offer brief commentary following the presentation.

As always, we'll have ample time available for Q&A.
