Dragon Tales  Weekly Newsletter
January 26, 2017

Dear St. George Families,

I am happy to report that the school budget for the 2017-2018 year has been completed and approved. I would like to thank the St. George School Finance committee and Mrs. Valarie Miller for their input and support as well as Fr. Mike, for his care and support of St. George Parish School. Finally, I offer many thanks to our school families whose love and support of our school is so important. When developing this budget we are always mindful of our unwavering commitment to be good stewards of the resources we have been given. Our budget is one component of the way we live out our school mission. Our mission states:

St. George Catholic School Mission
St. George Catholic School is a Christ-centered, family-oriented, community, with a history of tradition and excellence. Gospel values are integrated with academics within a progressive curriculum, promoting faith development through liturgy, prayer, and service.

The cost to educate a public school student in the State of Louisiana is $12,698 per student. The cost to educate one student at St. George School is approaching $6,000.00. For the 2017-2018 school year, St. George School Identified Financial Steward (IFS) tuition for one student will be $4,975, a 5% increase over last year. Tuition for a  non-IFS student and a non-Catholic student will be $5,850 and $6,260 respectively. I believe that this illustrates one measure of the great educational value that St. George provides.

Together, "And with Your Spirit", we continue to be a part of an unequaled school and parish community.  The future is very bright for our students and school. May God continue to bless you and your family. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at anytime.

Peace,
Jack Nelson

Student of The Year

Each year the Diocese of Baton Rouge participates in the Louisiana Department of Education's Student of the Year Awards Program. This program recognizes outstanding elementary, middle and high school students.  Students who are recognized by this process demonstrate excellent academic achievement, leadership ability, service  and citizenship.
St. George is proud to announce that the following  5 students from 5th grade and 5 students from 8th grade had been selected as candidates for St. George.  They each were interviewed by the administration and a  representative from each grade was chosen. Camille Cronin was selected as St. George's 8th grade representative and A nna Guidroz was selected as our 5th grade representative .
Camille and Anna
worked over the holidays  to create a portfolio  that highlighted their individual achievements. Their portfolios were submitted to the Diocese and  earned each of  them an i nterview at the Diocese. We await the results of their interview, but would like to acknowledge and congratulate all of our candidates on their achievements and efforts .
