Upper School Students Bring Home Honors

Can-Do Spirit
Middle School Completes Canned Food Drive
Middle School students focused on alleviating hunger last week, collecting 1084 cans in the Middle School Student Council's Canned Food Drive. Each grade focused on one item, with fifth  grade collecting soup, sixth grade fruit, seventh grade vegetables, and eight  grade meat. The eighth grade won the can sculpture contest with their shark sculpture made of tuna cans. Honorable mention went to fifth grade for their sculpture spelling out soup.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the canned food drive. All cans were delivered to the Vickery Meadow Food Pantry.

Construction Corner
Update from Headmaster Roger Perry
I just completed a wonderful tour of the construction site on an amazing, sunny and seventy-five degree, February day.

The steel workers are completing their work this week. All of the walls that are not glass are standing. The plumbers are almost complete with their placement of pipes in the walls and the electricians are setting boxes for the electrical plugs.

The heating and air conditioning crew is making good progress with the installation of the duct work in the ceilings. Generally, we are making very good progress and this great weather has made it possible for us to stay on schedule.

Be sure to take a look at our  construction photos and time-lapse videos

NJHS Spotlight on Seniors
This week's senior: Lauren Luna

Lauren Luna began her Lakehill journey in 9th grade. During her four years at Lakehill, one of her most memorable experiences was the Biology Trip. Some of her favorite classes at Lakehill include ceramics, yoga, and painting. While at Lakehill, she has received numerous TAPPS awards for drawing, ceramics, and painting.

Lauren will be attending the Dallas Art Institute. This is not surprising, considering her outstanding abilities and passion for the world of art. While at the Dallas Art Institute, she plans to focus on game art and design. She hopes this will prepare her to work for a major video game company, such as Bethesda Softworks or Rockstar Games.

Lauren enjoys creating her own artwork as well as commissions on the internet. Her cousin, Matthew Demino, inspires her the most. The greatest lesson she has learned at Lakehill is the importance of being yourself.

Her advice to young Warriors is to "take time to find yourself instead of trying to be someone you're not." As you can probably tell, Lauren Luna is a bright young lady with a bright future ahead of her.

Abengowe was on fire, scoring 33 of Lakehill's 35 points in the game. She also had 15 rebounds and eight steals. Waggoner collected 14 rebounds and the Lady Warriors played strong defense.

The team plays again on February 2 at home against Cristo Rey and on February 3 at home against Dallas Covenant.

Varsity Boys Basketball
The Varsity Boys Basketball team lost to Yavneh on January 31, but played hard and had great support from the fans.
This Thursday is Senior night and we are encouraging all fans to come out and support our seniors.

Middle School Boys Basketball - IAA
The Eighth Grade Boys Basketball team continued their winning ways with three victories in a busy week of games. On January 25, Lakehill traveled to the Sportsplex to take on Dallas International. After a close first quarter, the Warriors broke open the game with strong defense and an aggressive offense en route to a 51-27 victory. Christian Barefoot had a season-high 24 points and Andrew Ward contributed six points, numerous rebounds, and several blocked shots.

On
January 26, Lakehill hosted Providence. The Warriors started fast and the game was never in doubt, winning 53-24. Barefoot again led the team with 14 points, and eight different players contributed scoring, including Emerson Danamraj with five points. Finally on January 31, a talented Fairhill squad came to Lakehill for their first meeting of the season. The visiting Falcons put up a good fight, but after a slow start the Warriors pulled away to a 50-38 win. Barefoot had 20 points and Matthew McCall and Nathan Lewis each added 10. Lewis was a perfect six-for-six on free-throws.

Lakehill is currently 11-0 and has clinched first place in the IAA North Division. The final regular season game will be  next February 7 at Fairhill, with playoffs starting on February 9.

Middle School Girls Basketball

See more basketball photos.

Varsity Soccer
After a loss to Covenant on January 26, the Varsity Co-ed Soccer team defeated Shelton 2-1 on January 31.

Arjun Agrawal scored on a breakaway late in the first half to make it 1-0. The Lakehill defense and midfield did a great job of breaking up the rush from Shelton at the beginning of the second half. Shelton scored to tie the game on a corner kick, but Agrawal set up  Kyeser Hall for Lakehill's second goal a few minutes later. Lakehill was able to fend off multiple challenges in the last 10 minutes to ensure the win.

Middle School Soccer
The Middle School Co-ed Soccer team lost to Covenant on January 26. Their next game is February 2 at at Greenhill at 4:30 p.m.
