2017 Mandatory Paid Leave Update

For the last two years, the Howard County Chamber has actively followed and participated in the Mandatory Leave debate. This piece of legislation is one of the core policies the Chamber will actively follow during the 2017 Legislative Session. As Delegates introduce
HB0001 and HB0065, the Chamber stands opposed to this legislation as it currently stands.

Hogan says his proposed $17.1 billion budget will curtail future spending

Gov. Larry Hogan proposed a $17.1 billion budget Tuesday that he says is balanced, reins in spending and provides full funding for education.

Montgomery County Council passes $15 minimum wage for
most businesses

Legislation to raise Montgomery County's minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2020 passed the County Council on a 5-to-4 vote Tuesday, but it is unclear whether County Executive Isiah Leggett (D) will allow the measure to become law.

Ellicott City continues to move forward

The series of the four rECovery meetings held October through December brought the community together to learn about recovery efforts of nearby jurisdictions that faced similar challenges and provided a forum to share ideas to help Ellicott City rebuild stronger and more resilient.Going forward, the County will continue to work to keep the community engaged in the next steps. The Master Plan process will begin in 2017 and will require public involvement and interaction.

Volunteers needed for the Howard County Public Schools Passport to the Future program!
 
 
The mission of the program is to provide high school students enrolled in the Career Research and Development academy with the opportunity to earn a workforce-readiness endorsement. More than 150 local high school students will be participating in practice job interviews as part of the program and need your help on March 17, 2017.

The Howard Hughes Corporation has expanded its holdings in Downtown Columbia, MD with the acquisition of two existing office buildings: The American City Building (ACB), adjacent to Whole Foods Market on Little Patuxent Parkway; and One Mall North, positioned on the outside of the ring road surrounding The Mall in Columbia. Both purchases were underwritten in view of their future development potential.
