The Chamber of Manitowoc County: The Chamber Ambassadors' 14th  Annual Evening to Wine Down Scholarship Fundraiser takes place on Saturday, March 4. Each year the Ambassadors Committee presents $1,000 scholarships for graduating high school seniors that are pursuing a four-year degree and $500 scholarships for students pursuing a two-year degree. Felician Village has developed a Caregiver's College for Professionals to help provide knowledge and insight about dementia. Classes are designed for those who work directly with someone who has dementia or who have customers with dementia. The Crossing of Manitowoc County celebrates the opening of the new Crossing HOME. A short-term residence for young women, pregnant or with small children, the HOME's programs are designed to change lives and redirect the cycle of poverty while fostering sound life and parenting skills. We thank the many volunteers who helped us restore and furnish this wonderful historic home at 419 Park St., Manitowoc. Can you or your organization help? Lakeshore Humane Society has partnered with several local veterinarian offices to help low-income pet owners who cannot afford the full cost of spaying or neutering their pets. Anyone needing financial assistance to offset the cost of surgery is welcome to apply for spay/neuter assistance. You pay $25 per cat co-pay or $50 per dog co-pay. Proof of rabies vaccine is required. Limit three per household. Your information will remain confidential. Rahr-West Art Museum: The Art of Conversation series at the Rahr-West Art Museum will feature John Abler of Abler Art Glass, Kiel, on Thursday, March 9, at 1:00pm. At the presentation "40 years of glass, Design to Fabrication," Abler will discuss the various techniques he uses to create art glass. This event is free and open to the public.  A reception will follow the presentation.

"Often veterans don't realize that there are funds available for them as well as for their spouses," noted Theresa Patrick, Community Relations Director at Laurel Grove. "We felt that going right to the source for answers would be helpful for people considering assisted living, especially if they have concerns about affordability."

Lester Public Library: Our foreign film feature tonight (Tuesday) at 6:00pm is the Icelandic "Rams", billed as a drama with dry, even bleak, humor. It's about two neighboring but estranged elderly brothers trying to save the lineage of their rare and ancient breed of sheep after a dreaded disease is detected in one of the herds. Our Scholar for Life program at 6:00pm Wednesday features Dr. Jessica Van Slooten of the University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc, who will recount her experience editing the WWII memoir of her grandfather's military service, capture and escape from an Italian prison camp.
