The ACYI Gabbler

February 2017

CANs, and ACSS, and FAFSA, Oh My!

No shortage of acronyms in this edition...

CANs
You Spoke, We Listened... Thanks for Your Input!
Over the last few months we asked for your input through a brief survey determining what to call a new series of "action teams" that we are kicking off.   As a result of your input, these "action teams" will now be called Collaborative Action Networks (CANs).

Each CAN will consist of cross-sector practitioners and individuals who will organize around a Cradle to Career Outcome, meet regularly to review related data, receive technical support from ACYI (and each other), garner the youth and community voice into their work, enhance resources ($) and policy alignment, and ultimately spark more Site work (PDSA work).   READ MORE

ACSS
Partners Convene to Focus on Adams County Student Survey Enhancements
School District 27J, Adams 12 Five Star Schools and Adams 14 School District gathered on February 17th to discuss next steps for the ACSS Steering Committee.

As a data-driven partnership, ACYI has been administering the Adams County Student Survey (ACSS) for the past four years.   The ACSS has provided insight into aspects of students' lives that are not directly measured by grades and test scores but have a profound impact on academic outcomes.   ACYI believes in using data to improve cradle to career outcomes and is committed to  maintaining the Adams County Student Survey as a unique and longstanding value add to The Partnership.  Additionally, ACYI is committed to moving the ACSS to new heights.

As a result, the ACYI team conducted a listening tour with all five school district partners from January 20th to February 8th.  READ MORE

On another note, please watch for the 2016 ACSS County Level Report to be released the week of March 6th.

We are committed to sharing these Stories of Impact and showcasing the work that is pointed at moving the needle in each of our Cradle to Career Outcome areas.   Watch for ACYI #StoriesOfImpact like the one below in our monthly newsletter and across our social media channels.

FAFSA
Commerce City Youth Commission Focused on Improving Student Achievement...
Youth have set their sites on moving the needle in Post-Secondary Enrollment rates and are focusing on FAFSA Completion as their leading indicator of success.

The Commerce City Youth Commission serves as an advisory body to the Commerce City - City Council and works to implement projects in alignment with their YOUTH AND FAMILIES MASTER PLANThis year, the Youth Commission invited ACYI in to facilitate the development of a project using the continuous improvement methodology.

The Youth Commission began their work by looking at data from the Adams County Student Survey (ACSS) along with high school graduation and post-secondary enrollment rates for both Adams City High School and Prairie View High School, the two schools represented by students.  A deep dive of data showed students that an opportunity exists in helping to increase post-secondary enrollment rates. They determined that the best way to move the needle in post-secondary enrollment is in increasing Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) completion rates at each school. READ MORE
