Greetings Campus Community Coalition Members!

I have really been getting into the swing of things here and getting busy. Here is what I have been up to:

Off-Campus Living Information Sessions
These sessions at university residence halls, done in collaboration with the AS Legal Information Center, give the students a crash course in how to find a roommate, how to negotiate leases and how to be a responsible and considerate neighbor.

Housing and Hashbrowns Event
This event will give students an overview of what they need to know about off-campus living. The event takes place on Saturday February 4th and will feature guest speakers from our CCC partners. This event will also be the kickoff event for our Online Off-Campus Living Course.
Off-Campus Living Course
This week we are launching an engaging online "class", relevant to students, that provides resources and important information to consider before and during living off campus.
Litter Video
We are putting the finishing touches on a fun and informative video about why you shouldn't leave your couch on the curb. Check it out on our social media and the off-campus living website! http://www.wwu.edu/offcampusliving/garbage_recycle_litter.shtml
Hospitality Resource Alliance
We have scheduled a series of trainings and workshops for the next year that will be valuable for bartenders, wait staff, door people, bar and restaurant owners and alcohol and marijuana retailers. If you, or someone you know, are interested in getting involved in the group, please contact me and I will put you on the mailing list.
Town Gown Collaborations
The CCC, the City of Bellingham Planning and Police Departments and WWU Prevention and Wellness Services, have submitted a proposal to the Traffic Safety Commission to create educational materials, directed at people aged 18-25. The outreach campaign will focus on high risk behaviors associated with alcohol and other drugs and their impact on the Bellingham community.

In collaboration with the Planning Department and the Police Department, the CCC has been developing a neighborhood survey to gauge the frequency and extent of student-related challenges in the community. It is our intent to use these results to help guide us in our work. Look for a link to the survey with next month's newsletter. I hope that you all will help us collect data by distributing it to your networks!

Officer Osterkamp and I will be hitting the streets to do outreach at houses cited for noise/party related violations where it is suspected there are student residents. If you have an issue with repeated late-night party noise in your neighborhood, please Officer Osterkamp at [email protected] before February 9th and we can include a visit to your neighbors in our schedule.
Student Research and Engagement Collaborations
We are collaborating with Sean Bruna, an assistant professor of Anthropology and his students to analyze data from the 2016 Off-Campus living survey and conduct a series of interviews with students about their off-campus living experience. Results from this study will help us identify opportunities to provide additional support to students and give us important direction in our work.

Also, in collaboration with the Center for Service Learning and a GIS intern, we will be sprucing up the Off-Campus Living Website with maps for the 'Your Bellinghome' page. These visually arresting maps will help those who are new to the community or moving off campus for the first time get to know Bellingham. If you have a data source for interesting Bellingham information, please contact me.
Moveout Madness
Planning has begun for this year's Move Out Madness! This year, in addition to the dumpsters provided, WWU will also be running a couch collection service for students. For a small fee, students will be able to hire another student with a truck to come and take their couches and large furniture away.  We are seeking neighborhood representatives to participate in the planning process, so please contact me if you are interested in getting involved.  We will also be looking to the neighborhoods to help us get the word out in the upcoming months so please stay tuned!
In general
In addition, I continue to attend neighborhood association meetings and share about the CCC in other community venues. We also continue to use our Facebook page to push messages out. If you have information, relevant to the mission of the CCC, that you would like me to push out, please let me know.
