Aging out of foster care: there's an app for that
"When youth age out of foster care, it's far too easy for them to fall off the grid and not have access to services to help them successfully enter into adulthood. But now, there's an app for that."
This phone app provides youth in need with resources for housing, health, income, education and more 24-hours a day. It was developed with input from youth who have aged out of foster care and is made possible by the Tellier Foundation, SaintA and partner organizations throughout Milwaukee.

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy training
Too many children in Milwaukee carry toxic levels of stress because of multiple traumatic experiences in their young lives. However, trauma-informed therapeutic interventions in adolescence can help reduce the impact of trauma on young people's health and happy futures.
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based intervention offered to children and families who have experienced traumatic stress.
Research findings consistently demonstrate TF-CBT to be useful in reducing symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as well as symptoms of depression and behavioral difficulties in children who have experienced sexual abuse and other traumas. For more information about TF-CBT, click here.
The Milwaukee Brighter Futures Initiative invites master's level providers to become trained in TF-CBT. The training will be hosted by Children's Hospital of Wisconsin Community Services and will be held on May 3rd-5th, 2017 and August 9th-10th, 2017. Trainees must commit participate in online and in-person training sessions, plus 16 monthly consultation calls (June 2017-May 2018 on Tuesdays 11am-noon.

Strengthening Families Program training builds capacity in Milwaukee area
Parents want to protect their children, but it's challenging. Youth need skills to help them resist the peer pressure that leads to risky behaviors. Research shows that protective parenting improves family relationships and decreases the level of family conflict, contributing to lower levels of substance use.
- to help parents/caregivers learn nurturing skills that support their children
- to teach parents/caregivers how to effectively discipline and guide their children
- to give youth a healthy future orientation and an increased appreciation of their parents/caregivers
- to teach youth skills for dealing with stress and peer pressure

Mental health care in MKE jail

The
Milwaukee Mental Health Task Force, in partnership with the
Black Health Coalition of Wisconsin, Inc, is holding a listening session to learn more about conditions in the Milwaukee County Jail for people living with mental illness. The Listening Session is scheduled for Monday, February 27 from 5:30 - 7:30 PM at the Black Health Coalition of Wisconsin, 3020 W Vliet Street, Milwaukee, WI 53208.

event - the Social Justice and Evaluation Conference - on Thursday, March 2 in Madison, Wisconsin at the Goodman Community Center.

a leader in advancing evidence-based practices in evaluation and building new fields of research in health, healthcare and evaluation. Conference participants will also participate in several methods-based capacity building breakout sessions, network with peers across the state, and meet several emerging evaluators of color.

Understanding Children's Sexual Behavior Webinar
March 8
It's difficult for most people to think of children as associated with any kind of sexual behaviors. And it's easy to overreact when your child displays any type of sexual behavior - healthy or not. The appropriate reaction can mean the difference between healing and compounding the problem.
This training will:
- discuss what all parents need to know about children's sexual behaviors
- provide a greater understanding of why some children act out sexually
- explore the most appropriate and effective ways of responding to children's sexual behavior issues
- teach you how to build your own sexual safety plan for your family and home.

Early Pathways Program Training
April 6-7
The Early Pathways Program is an evidence-based training program for mental health professionals who serve families of young children with behavior problems.
Based on the proven treatment strategies of the
Behavior Clinic, the self-paced program provides a comprehensive and integrated assessment and treatment protocol for addressing significant behavior problems in children five years of age and younger including serious tantrums, aggression, property destruction and self-injury.
