Nominate a deserving Wildcat for the campus Recognition Awards
Do you know an inspiring student who is a great campus leader? Do you have an encouraging professor that challenges you to always do your best? Do you work with a diligent staff member?
Nominate these deserving Wildcats for the Kansas State Polytechnic Recognition Awards. Honor a student, faculty member, or staff member through nomination in a variety of different awards.
Nomination packets will be available in the library, the Student Life Center, residence hall front desks, the Aero front desk, and in College Center 208. Nominations are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 17. Late nominations will not be accepted. Submit your nomination by email to [email protected] or drop off a nomination packet to the Outreach Center between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The awards will be presented during the annual SGA Awards Ceremony on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 6 p.m. All nominees and nominators will be invited to attend the dinner free of charge.

Faculty and staff volunteers needed for Casino Night
 Kansas State Polytechnic's programming board needs your help keeping another campus tradition going.
Casino Night, held
March 8 from 6 to 10 p.m., needs faculty and staff volunteers to act as game dealers. No experience is necessary because rule sheets
will be emailed out to volunteers
before the event and training will be offered an hour prior to the festivities.
Volunteers will be needed from 5 to 10 p.m. in the College Center conference room. Contact the programming board or Cody Waterman, residence life coordinator, by Feb. 27 to sign up.
Casino Night offers students a fun night away from studying through games, snacks, prizes and camaraderie. The various games featured will be blackjack, craps, bingo, Texas Hold'Em, and roulette tables. All volunteers will receive a free T-shirt for donating their time.

Wildcat Warrior 5K set for April 22, proceeds benefit fallen soldier's memorial
 The Wildcat Warriors have set the date for their annual 5K race and are hoping to help a fallen soldier's memorial with the proceeds.
The student group, which supports the United States Air Force and is based on the Manhattan Campus, is hosting the Wildcat Warrior 5K on April 22 with on-site registration beginning at 8 a.m. and the race starting at 9 a.m.
The proceeds from the event will go to improving
Captain William Grimm's memorial. Captain Grimm served as a Navigator in the Air Force and was the only K-State alumnus killed in action during Operation Desert Storm.
Captain Grimm's current memorial is a plaque laid in the ground next to an oak tree, making it hard to see and susceptible to damage from lawnmowers. The 5K race will help raise funds to improve this memorial, and will greatly honor a distinguished alumnus who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Terri Gaeddert joins Kansas State Polytechnic as director of academic operations
 With a continued focus on enhancing the student experience, Kansas State University's Polytechnic Campus has hired its first-ever director of academic operations.
Terri Gaeddert, former associate dean and director of teaching education at Sterling College, has been selected for the new role and is charged specifically with strengthening program collaboration under the campus' recently implemented School of Integrated Studies. She also will streamline course schedules, mentor faculty, and improve faculty resourcing.
A native of Ogallala, Nebraska, Gaeddert has a doctorate in educational leadership from Wichita State University, a master's in teaching from Friends University in Wichita, and a bachelor's in mathematics and computer science from Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska.

Tech Center erasable write board is ready for use
The Technology Center has a brand new amenity perfect for work and fun!
The middle column in the lobby of the building has been painted with
a sketch pad dry erase coating, and after curing for several days, is ready for use. The area is an erasable write board that students, faculty and staff can use for class work or playing games.
Today, a group of mechanical engineering technology students were utilizing the write board while working on their sophomore project in Dr. Dandu's machine design technology class. The project is centered around minimum fluidization velocity and the students used the write board for calculations.

Civic Luncheon Lecture featuring 'fake news' topic draws more than 100 attendees
 Can you tell the difference between real and fake news?
Stephen Wolgast, an assistant professor of journalism and digital media at Kansas State University, presented on this timely topic at the February Civic Luncheon Lecture Series. The presentation on Feb. 16 drew a crowd of more than 100 interested attendees.
Wolgast, who
previously worked in newspaper journalism for 19 years, including nine years as an editor at The New York Times, used various posts from Twitter as examples to show how information can be misconstrued.
The local newspaper, the Salina Journal, was also in attendance and wrote an article about the event, which can be viewed HERE.

High-five to those involved with the Networking Fair!
 I would like to express my appreciation to all of the faculty and staff who were a part of making this year's Networking Fair a success, for both our students and the organizations that participated.
I know it took a considerable amount of time and coordination to make this event possible and I'm grateful for your efforts.

Study Abroad Scholarships:
Ever think of studying abroad but don't think you can afford it? Check into the Gilman scholarship. K-State Polytechnic has had students study abroad with the assistance of this scholarship. The deadline is March 7 for Summer or Fall programs abroad, and October 2 for Spring programs abroad.

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund offers scholarships to students of Hispanic heritage. Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Must be enrolled at full-time. Permanent legal residents and DACA students are eligible to apply along with U.S. citizens. DEADLINE: March 30.
