Book launch held to celebrate new guide to distressed debt in Europe

TMA Europe and Globe Law and Business held, in London on Thursday 26th January, a book launch party to celebrate the publication of their new joint title Investing in Distressed Debt in Europe: The TMA Handbook for Practitioners. More than 100 turnaround professionals attended the book launch, which was held at the Millennium Hotel in Mayfair.

The publication aims to provide an overview of the European distressed debt market and covers debt trading, non-performing loans, direct lending, restructuring and workouts.

TMA Europe board member Ignacio Buil Aldana, a Partner in the Finance and Restructuring Team at the London office of Spanish law firm Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira, acted as consulting editor for the publication, which also features contributions from other leading experts in the field.

Ignacio said: "The success of the book launch event shows the growing interest that the European distressed market is attracting and we are happy to have been able to produce a practical reference guide for those seeking a better understanding of the commercial and legal complexities involved in this market."

In addition, Enrica Ghia, the new president of TMA Europe, said: "the main purpose of TMA Europe is to become the forum for interchange of ideas across Europe in connection with turnaround and restructuring matters, this publication and the London book launch event is a further example of our organisation's commitment to become a forum of innovation and progress in the law and practice of restructuring and turnaround in Europe".

The European Association of Certified Turnaround Professionals (EACTP) is organising an evening of debate about proposed new European rules on business insolvency.

The event, being held in Brussels on Tuesday 2nd May and hosted by Squire Patton Boggs at its Brussels office, is called A New European Restructuring Regime in a Changing World, and will focus on the newly-proposed EU Business Insolvency Directive.
The European Commission Directive, which proposes a new approach to business insolvency in Europe, is set to transform the regulatory landscape for turnaround professionals.

The EACTP event, which is free to attend and open to members and their guests, will discuss the proposed new legislation in detail to address key issues and concerns.

Salla Saastamoinen, The European Commission Director of the Civil and Commercial Justice Unit, will speak at the event, and it is also hoped that The European Parliament will send a representative to help provide its perspective on the issue.
