Sunday, February 19: that's the last day to buy tickets for the February 23 Dominican Night Dinner and Auction to raise funds for the 2017 mission "Go Team" projects and scholarships. The location is the Cotton Corner, 101 N. Ashley Street, Valdosta, and the event starts at 6 p.m. Tickets at $25 are available after both morning services on the 19th and by calling Julia Ariail (229 559-7329). We have to turn in the final number to our caterer on Monday, February 20.
The list of live auction items includes the following: a juggling performance by Joel Williams; six meals prepared for you by Susan Chamberlain; two 2017 season passes to Peach State Summer Theatre plus a gift card for 206 North; corn hole board game by Paul Stevenson; nine cakes or desserts by Marcie Dennard; the opportunity to feature your favorite Beatles song in one of Fr. Dave's sermons; a weekend on St. Simons Island in Phyllis and Mike Holland's home; weekend in Atlanta with hotel stay and entrance to tourist attractions; two nights on Jekyll Island in a condo owned by Debi and Dick Saeger; three nights in a north GA mountain cabin owned by Tammy and Ron Borders; four tickets to the Appalachian State - UGA football game on September 22 plus Friday and Saturday night stay at an Athens condo on Broad Street owned by Lyn and Marvin Dickey. Plus there will be lots of silent auction items to bid on during the evening. |

Saturday, March 11 beginning at 9 a.m. with a light breakfast and coffee. We will have lunch and conclude with a Eucharist at 2:00 p.m. All women are invited to attend.

EYC -
There will be no EYC Sunday School this Sunday and no high school EYC this Sunday evening, the 19th. We are planning on doing a day canoe trip on the Suwanee river on March 11th, more details will be coming out soon. We have launched our new youth Facebook group and Instagram account. The group will be a great way for Philip to keep parents involved with what's happening and also full of photos and videos from our EYC nights and youth events. Here are links to the

ECF - Episcopal College Fellowship

ECF (Episcopal College Fellowship) -
Family dinner will be on Monday (20th) instead of our usual Thursday evening. Small groups are available during the week on Tuesdays at 2:00pm at the Starbucks on N. Valdosta Rd and Fridays at 9:30am on the third floor of the Student Union. There will be no Friday small group on 2/17.

The Stitchers of Love will be meeting Sunday, February 19, 2017 from 4 - 6 p.m. in the Parish Hall.
We will be meeting on February 19th to work on Bunny Creations. No knitting or crocheting needed, so come and bring a non-stitching friend. All are welcome.

We need fruit cups for Lunch Bunch. Please consider picking up a six pack of fruit cups when you do your family grocery shopping. The children love the fruit and the Lunch Bunch volunteers appreciate it.

Leidy Says "Thank You" In Video
|
|
Julia and Julius Ariail returned home on February 15 after 8 days in the Dominican Republic working on details for our June mission trip and meeting with other mission team leaders and DR diocesan staff. This 2017 mission trip will be building a house for Leidy Rosario, an English teacher in the Episcopal school in El Pedregal.
In a short video, Leidy expresses her thanks to the congregation of Christ Church and to our mission team members who will be working on her house. To see this video, click the link above.
$1 will buy a concrete block for the house the mission team will build for Leidy, her fiancé Jesús, and and their son Emanuel in El Pedregal in June. A cardboard house is set up in the Parish Hall with a donations jar. Please contribute coins, checks, bills - small or large amounts, it all adds up. Each week, we will count the money and apply the corresponding number of colorful "blocks" during the week. Our goal is $2,500, and we currently have over $1,000.
As a result of this February site visit in El Pedregal, the location and the design of Leidy's house have changed. The location is now a vacant lot in the village owned by a member of Leidy's fiancé's family, and since that lot is fairly large the house can now be one-story rather than two-story -- much less expensive and quicker to construct. Work on site preparation has already begun, and photos should be coming in soon.

The thank you notes from the students in the Dominican Republic who received one of the 70 scholarships we donated for the 2016-17 academic year remain on display in the parish hall.

. Please note: some scans are very faint because the student wrote in light pencil or crayon, but the intent comes through every time --
