In Loving Memoriam
Sandra Vinnick
|
|
We all want someone we can count on. On various levels this translates to our spouse, our best
friends, our business partners. It is no difference with organizations. Sandy Vinnik was undeniably
reliable and I was fortunate that many of my interests also engaged her. She was a dedicated Sister
Cities member for Karmiel long before my tenure (and had relations with Takayama and Chennai as well).
Her assistance financially, in attendance and in strategy both for Karmiel and for Israel were notable &
instructive. Prior to her illness, I saw her and spoke with her weekly and she always had thoughtful
comments and suggestions. In another role, as chair of a large local Jewish cemetery, I challenged her to
create an entry garden. Needless to say, the product was on time, on budget and beautiful. I requested
her assistance on this project because she was the moving force in getting the City of Denver to plan the
Karmiel Children's Garden on the Karmiel Sister City Park site. We were both natives (sort of, she was
from Cheyenne but that's pretty close) and she loved our area and its history. Her recent lecture on
Jews in small Rocky Mountain towns demonstrated her intellect as well as her passion. Sadly, neither
Sister Cities Karmiel, my Mt. Nebo Cemetery board, the Rocky Mountain Jewish Historical Society or the
multiple other beneficiaries of her attention, from the Symphony and Ballet to the University of Denver,
can turn to her again for that dependable person to get things done with class and grace. We will all
miss her.
May her memory be a blessing to us all.

Former chair of DSCI's Karmiel Committee
