It's February 1st, which means 6th graders are coming and going to and from Wolf Ridge...literally. You can check out the pictures on Facebook as they come rolling in. ICYMI - Wildcats made news with a true " buzzer beater" by Thomas Gillach. Also today was signing day for some Wildcat athletes who made their intentions known. Elementary conferences are coming next week, so elementary students have an early dismissal day (2/9) and a day off (2/10). Elementary book fairs will also be up and running next week - it's I Love to Read month!

Music Extravaganza Concert Held at CLHS

CLHS hosted the first ever 8-12 band and choir concert on Monday night - and more than a few people showed up to enjoy the music. The Extravaganza showcased the work of students in grades eight through twelve - a total of 418 students performing.  The concert started with the 8th grade band, followed by the 8th grade choir, and proceeding back and forth between the various bands and choirs that make up the high school music programming. The concert culminated with all the choirs performing " Hand in Hand," and all the bands performing " Band OlĂ©." The finale was all the musicians (and audience) together on the school song. Check out the program for all the details.

Check out the pictures from 8th Grade Band, 8th Grade Choir, Men's Choir (9th grade), Concert Band (9th Grade), Women's Choir (9th Grade), Symphonic Band (9th-10th grade), Select Choir (10th-12th grade), Wind Ensemble (10th-12th grade), Stage Choir (10th-12th grade), and Jazz Band (11th-12th grade). If you're not picky, you can see them all.

District Spelling Bee Highlights Top Orthographers

7th grader Mark Palmquist (3rd), 6th grader Sofia Shuga (2nd), 5th grader Zoe Lunzer (1st)

The annual District Spelling Bee took place on January 23, 2017.  A group of 33 students in grades 5 through 8 competed against each other for a chance to move on to the Regional Spelling Bee in Sartell on February 8th hosted by Resource Training & Solutions. Pronouncer Matt Silver gave the kids the words, while judges Keith Carlson and Carol Harris kept things official.

It was another exciting bee - students went round after round. It took until round 11 to narrow the field to three.  In round 12, only one speller got her word correct - "gladiatorial." In order to win the bee it was imperative that she orthographize one more time...The word? Au fait. The definition: having experience or practical knowledge of a thing; expert; versed. The result? We have a winner!

5th grader Zoe Lunzer, on the backs of "gladiatorial" and "au fait," goes on to take the top honor in the 2017 Chisago Lakes District Spelling Bee! Not sure Merriam Webster could have planned it any better. Congratulations to Zoe, Sofia Shuga in second place, and Mark Palmquist in third place! Nice job by all the kids who competed.  Check out the full gallery of participants.
